Landing A Job When No One is Hiring

Tim Branson - 700 Club Producer

CBN.com —2010 started out well enough for Guy and Nichelle Peoples.  She was a licensed vocational nurse while he worked part time and took care of their two daughters.  But by June, both had lost their jobs, and no one, it seemed was hiring.

“From there it just went from bad to worse to worse,” remembers Guy. “The last check I got from my part-time job, I got groceries, and just five days later the power got cut off.”

After that came the eviction notice, and they were homeless.

“I just kept saying how did I get here?  That’s a hard pill to swallow,” says Guy. “I’ve always been able to take care of myself.”

The family needed help.  They found it at Path of Life ministries Family Shelter in Riverside California.  CBN is proud to partner with Path of Life, because they give families a second chance. Damien O’Farrell is assistant director of the family shelter.

“The purpose of this place is really to restore and rebuild lives,” says Damien. “We do that by helping people in a moment of crisis when they’re homeless, families with children, and giving them a stable place to live and then working with them to find housing, to find employment.”

They believe in empowering people by teaching them the life and work skills they need.  Guy found a new career through the accelerated work program.
“As of September 18th of this year I got my license as a certified nurses assistant because I realized just having work experience is not enough you actually have to have a career and now I do,” says Guy.

The family is now in transitional housing, also run by Path of Life.  They can stay up to two years.  While Guy starts his new career, Nichelle is back in school, pursuing her dream of becoming a registered nurse.

“I’m very excited,” says Nichelle. “I try not to you know.”

Guy and Nichelle speak for many of the families that you are helping through your gifts to CBN.

“I would just like to say thank you,” says Guy. People like CBN and everybody that makes those donations and make all that possible. I think that without Path of Life, I don’t even want to imagine what my daughters would be going through.”

As for Arianna and Nianna, they’re doing just fine.

“I would like to say thank you to all the people who helped and appreciate us,” says Arianna.
