Pray for America - Day 2
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. — Proverbs 3:5-6
DAY 2: "In God We Trust"
Trust is a solid belief in the reliability of someone or something. As a verb, trusting is relying upon, or believing in, something or someone.
In today’s world, information is available to us at the click of a button or the touch of a screen. We search the internet for answers. We join social media sites to share our lives with “friends.” We listen to talk radio, watch news shows, and navigate online links to get the information we want. We communicate by text messages and tweets to express our thoughts in as few words as possible. We are becoming more knowledgeable, and that, in itself, can be beneficial. But when we look at the word trust, we should ask ourselves: “Are we relying on information technology as our greatest source of knowledge, or are we believing in Jehovah God, who has infinite understanding and perfect knowledge of all things?”
As we pray for America, each of us should first examine our trust in God. When we petition Him to restore America, pray, “Let it begin with me, Lord. Let it begin with me.” A perfect start is found in the words from the refrain of a well-known hymn:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
