The President of the conservative Family Research Council is not thrilled with Barack Obama’s pick for Education Secretary. Perkins sent The Brody File the following statement via email today:
"President-Elect Obama*s choice of Chicago Public Schools chief Arne Duncan to be Secretary of Education is profoundly troubling. Just two months ago, Duncan was pushing a radical proposal using taxpayer funds to create a special high school to cater to homosexual students. Duncan backed away from this ill-considered plan only after facing sharp criticism from Chicago*s taxpayers, clergy, mayor, Board of Education, and even from homosexual activists, who argued that segregating homosexual students is not the way to address issues of bullying and harassment. If this is the radical agenda that Mr. Duncan wants to promote nationwide, and if the poor judgment he showed in this fiasco is indicative of his administrative skills, then President-elect Obama should look elsewhere for a Secretary of Education."
The real question here folks is will Senate Republicans follow suit? Will they may a stink about it?
Talk about stink, comments to The Brody File have been vicious on this after my article yesterday. Read that here. I’ve reprinted a few below to give you a sense of how readers think I’m a little wacky.
From Mary
As a parent of two gay children, and understanding the pain and agony they have experienced in their lives, I find your attitude offensive. You should support such a concept, not disparage it. Shame on you.
From Mel
Your remarks about a Gay High School are amazingly puerile. You should consider returning to school - perhaps kindergarten.
From Mohammad;
Look I don’t support gay marriage.. but what is wrong with the Chief of Chicago schools trying to get the gay and lesbian community to go to school separately..if there is a high dropout rate for students like them. I work at a university.. I am in favor for education for all. Why do have throw a wedge in every issue including education. C’mon david…
The Brody File weeps...
