Mike Huckabee tells the Brody File that Mitt Romney needs to admit that his healthcare plan in Massachusetts was a disaster.

Huckabee made the comments to me earlier this morning. You can watch the video below and read part of the transcription as well.

In essence, Mike Huckabee is giving advice to Mitt Romney on how to handle the whole “RomneyCare” issue. Isn’t that nice! I’m sure Romney will be taking notes. (Actually maybe he should)

Huckabee mentions and rips “RomneyCare” several times in his new book, “A Simple Government”. In the interview, I asked him why he used the word “RomneyCare” (as in “ObamaCare”) rather than Romney’s health care plan. Watch:

Mike Huckabee to Brody File on "RomneyCare": I don’t think it’s a killer issue for him. I think he can get out of it but he’s got to be up front and say look, we tried that. It didn’t work. It’s better to say that’s what states do. States are the laboratory of learning.

Huckabee on "RomneyCare": I’m grateful that Massachusetts gave this a try. Tennessee had tried something almost identical to that... In both states it was a disaster.

The point is since it didn’t work why on earth would we make it a national program? So that we could fail across the entire country? It makes no sense.

Huckabee on "RomneyCare": Even without an overt apology the explanation could be we tried this. We tried this in good faith. We thought it would be a good program and help. It didn’t. We acknowledge that it didn’t work. I have no problems with someone who is bold enough and risky enough.

That’s what you want in a leader. Someone who says I tried something. It was different. It was bold; it didn’t work so we’ll try something else. That I can live with. What a person can’t really do is to say, "yes I tried it but it really worked great" when it didn’t.;
