Exclusive: Rick Santorum Tells Brody File Media Targeting Him Because He's a 'Bible-Believing Christian'

03-05-2012

Rick Santorum tells The Brody File that the media is being tough on him because he is a Bible-believing Christian. I interviewed Santorum backstage Monday evening after his event in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Watch the video below and read the full transcription. More clips being released this evening.

I was at both a Romney rally and a Santorum rally today in Ohio. Anecdotally speaking, the Santorum event had way more energy and passion. Besides all the hooting and hollering, there was a prayer, Cub Scout’s leading the national anthem, and a live band.

The Romney campaign event had recycled CD’s blaring from speakers, tons of advance men, and polite applause. To use a music analogy, Santorum’s event was like being at a Kenny Chesney concert. The Romney event was like going to a Yanni concert.

David Brody: Is the media out to get you?

Rick Santorum: I’m not a conspiracy theorist.

Brody: But there’s a worldview there though.

Santorum: Do people look at someone who is a Bible-believing Christian and find them to be an oddity in American politics today? The answer is, obviously, yes. And to have the media to continually focus on those issues is really troubling, because if someone had views that were not based on those things, they wouldn’t nearly be as tough on them. But look…

Brody: No excuses, right?

Santorum: I didn’t get into this thing knowing that this was going to be easy.
