Exclusive: Freedom Caucus Leader Relies On Faith During Fight Over Healthcare

04-10-2017

In a one-on-one interview with The Brody File, Congressman Mark Meadows, the leader of the House Freedom Caucus says Bible verses on patience and humility have gotten him through some rough stretches the last few weeks as he’s tried to reach a deal with The White House and GOP Leadership on healthcare reform. “Patience is not a virtue that comes easily to me but its to wait upon the Lord and so as I see that it has been reminded over and over and over again and it’s been confirmed over a dozen different places whether it’s in scripture or by other people sharing encouraging thoughts that’s where it’s been,” Meadows tells me. “What I hope that I’ve been able to portray is a real humble spirit in everything that I do because this is not about me, it’s not about the Freedom Caucus. It’s about the people of this great country that God has blessed.”

Meadows  and his Freedom Caucus members are a key group of constitutional conservatives and President Trump needs the bulk of their votes or house legislative agenda dies a slow death in the House. Meadows has taken plenty of slings and arrows, even from the president himself. But Meadows faith guides him as he navigates the art of the deal in DC.
