Unplanned Pregnancy: You Are Not Alone
If you’ve just learned that you’re pregnant, you may be asking, “What am I going to do? How will the baby’s father react? What will my family say? Where can I turn?” You probably have many questions, but one fact is clear:
GOD LOVES YOU-AND YOUR BABY!
The Lord is the creator of all life, and He sees each child as priceless and precious. Psalm 139:13-16 says: You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
ALTHOUGH YOU MAY NOT HAVE PLANNED THIS PREGNANCY, GOD HAS A PLAN, A PURPOSE, AND A DESTINY FOR YOUR CHILD.
God declares in Jeremiah 1:5, “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.” And He tells us in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
A DEADLY “FIX”
Some may tell you that abortion is a quick and easy “fix”—that it can make your pregnancy disappear, just as if it never happened. While these people may have good intentions, their “solution” is misguided.
- Abortion is big business. It is unregulated and highly profitable.
- Abortion counselors do not want you to know you really have a choice. They have been carefully trained to sell you on abortion.
- Abortion procedures and abortion-inducing drugs are not “safe,” as they may cause complications, infections, or physical impairment for women. And they are never safe for an unborn child.
A fetus is a fully formed unique individual with his or her own genetic code from the moment of conception. After just five or six weeks, cardiac tissue begins to pulse and may be detected as a heartbeat by an ultrasound. And unborn babies may feel pain as early as 12 weeks. Ending this tiny life can create many problems, affecting your life significantly.
SOME WOMEN SUFFER ADVERSE REACTIONS THAT INCLUDE: •
- Depression, regret, or remorse
- Low self-esteem
- Nightmares
- Fear of infertility
- Alcoholism or drug abuse
- Flashbacks of the surgical abortion procedure or chemical abortion process
- TAKE HEART!
You may think this pregnancy is a problem right now—but the natural outcome is a beautiful child who can be a wonderful blessing in your life. Someday that child will climb up on your lap, hug you, and say, “I love you, Mommy!”
You’ve probably heard of Psalm 23, which describes the Lord as our shepherd who will lead us and protect us. But did you know that our Good Shepherd takes special care of mothers and their little ones? We read in Isaiah 40:11, He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them close to his heart. He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young.
If you know for sure that you cannot care for a child, please consider adoption. You could be the answer to someone’s desperate prayers for a baby.
In every community, there are people and places to help you meet the needs of every stage of your pregnancy. Simply look online for a crisis pregnancy center near you, and you’ll find caring people who can help provide prenatal care, counseling, maternity and baby items, adoption information if needed, and much more.
If you’ve had an abortion, God will forgive you when you ask—even if you find it difficult to forgive yourself. You may have felt you had no choice, or perhaps others pressured you. But whatever the reason, the Lord loves you, He wants to forgive and bless you, and He can use you to help others.
THE BEST CHOICE
You have many decisions ahead, but the most important one right now is to commit your life to the Lord. When you look to God, you will find boundless love, forgiveness, wisdom, comfort, provision, and hope. He promises in Psalm 32:8, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.”
With Jesus leading the way, you are ready to face the road ahead. And you can face it with the assurance of His promise in Romans 8:28, We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
This means that God will cause this pregnancy to work together for your good! He will see you—and your baby— through any difficulties or challenges in the future. May the Lord bless you, guide you, and fill you with hope today.
