Urgent Surgery Restores Their Son's Sight

Ken Hulme - 700 Club International Managing Director

San Pedro Sula, Honduras

Jesus loves his dad and got excited whenever he came home from work. But when Jesus turned two, his parents noticed their son struggled to see.

They told The 700 Club that he stumbled when he walked and sometimes fell. He also seem to be unable to focus his eyes on anything.

Jesus’ dad Jonatan told us other things that seemed off. "I noticed that if Jesus had something in his hands, like my phone, he had to bring it close to his face to see it. That’s when I knew something was wrong," he said.

In spite of the risks from the COVID pandemic, they took Jesus to see an eye specialist.

Jonatan told us that the doctor diagnosed his son with congenital bilateral cataracts. He said the doctor urged them to schedule surgery immediately to prevent permanent vision loss in both eyes.

“I have cried for my son many nights,” said the emotional father. “I woke up at night and started crying and asking God why my Jesus have this problem.”

Jonatan is a taxi driver. His limited income, especially during the pandemic, meant they could not afford to pay for the operation.

“I would like to have money, not to be rich, but to be able to pay for my son’s surgery!” he said through his tears. “He needs it now. There is no time to wait.”

The next time they went to the eye doctor, Jonatan confessed that they could not pay for surgery.

So a staff member at the clinic mentioned how Operation Blessing has helped other poor families by providing free surgeries.

When we met with them, we told them that some Operation Blessing donors had made it possible for Jesus to receive free surgery on his eyes!

"Thank you, thank you very much, thank you for this great news,” exclaimed Jonatan. “We have been waiting for this for a long time."

Operation Blessing Honduras arranged for Jesus to receive surgery in both eyes at a nearby hospital.

A surgeon removed the cataracts and replaced them with new lenses in both eyes. Doctors told the couple that their son’s sight had been restored.

“To the donors who gave to Operation Blessing to help my son get surgery, I want to say thank you. I don’t know them and they are far from here but I pray that God will bless them!” said a grateful Jonatan.
