PAT ROBERTSON: Welcome to this edition of The 700 Club. It's no surprise to hear that Washington has a spending crisis. Surprise, surprise! And one way the White House is trying to solve that problem is by cutting our military budgets.
TERRY MEEUWSEN: But, as John Jessup reports, many critics worry that those cuts could seriously hurt America's national defense.
DEFENSE CUTS
JOHN JESSUP: For decades no other country could rival the supremacy of America's armed forces. But some military analysts believe Pres. Obama and his chief military advisers are on a course to get America's defense while other countries like China and Russia ramp up their next-generation military arsenals.
Mackenzie Eaglen (American Enterprise Institute): Sec. Panetta’s magic bullet that he can cut away all these dollars in capabilities from the US military, and keeping a strong as it is today, are really just words on a memo flying around the Pentagon.
JOHN JESSUP: MacKenzie Eaglen, a military analyst at the American Enterprise Institute, believes president’s proposed 525-billion-dollar defense budget will weaken the military by cutting 100,000 active-duty troops and spending less on weapons and technology they use. But she says that's not the worst of it. Another wave of across-the-board cuts are scheduled to kick in, in January.
Mackenzie Eaglen: This possibility of additional half trillion in Defense cuts coming on the first half trillion as part of the debt ceiling deal would truly set the military back into where basically we become a regional power; we lose our global superpower status as a military.
JOHN JESSUP (Capitol Hill): Those concerns are echoed by defense hawks here on Capitol Hill saying it will put America and its allies at risk. Some are trying to find ways to avoid those cuts if possible. Still others disagree with the doomsday predictions about America's declining military might.
Christopher Preble (CATO Institute): The US military will remain by any objective standard the most dominant military relative to any comparable combination of possible adversaries.
JOHN JESSUP: Chris Preble, a former US Navy officer with the libertarian CATO Institute, says the cuts are needed to curb government spending and to modernize military strategy. He says the president's proposed budget mirrors how much the US spent during the Cold War buildup under Pres. Reagan. He believes it's time to rethink deployments and missions overseas and here at home.
Christopher Preble: People become accustomed to having a base in their district or building ships, or building planes, and so you build up a whole set of political constituencies that want to keep that ball rolling.
JOHN JESSUP: And what about the people who work in the military? How will the cuts affect them? As the wife of a retired Army officer, Joyce Raezer knows about the sacrifices military families make which is why she fights to support their well-being. She feared military families would have to sacrifice more than their share in the president's 2013 budget but was relieved to find out that the Pentagon's chopping block spared military family programs.
Joyce Raezer (Nat’l Military Family Assoc): The fact that family programs stayed the same, to us in a very, I guess, a cynical way, we're going to look at that as good news.
JOHN JESSUP: Even though family programs are safe for now, President Obama promised to veto any attempt to undo next year's automatic cuts unless Congress can find the savings elsewhere. But even now, as lawmakers review the budget, they are planning to counter proposals to fund the military beyond the president’s request, especially with about 90,000 troops still in Afghanistan. Joyce hopes Washington will continue supporting the military with the tools they need on the battle front, and the home front, to address the long-term effects of war. John Jessup, CBN news, Capitol Hill.
PAT ROBERTSON: Thanks, John. I personally think have cuts, and it won't be as painful as they think. There are weapons systems that are unnecessary. We don't have to have the latest geegaws and doodads in our military in order to be—as they said, we spend more money than all of the rest of them combined practically. There's nobody else that can come close. But the thing that worries me is that I don't trust the motives of the president. because he has made clear that his role in life is to diminish the power of the United States. He just really wants to diminish us. He wants to cut our nuclear arsenal dramatically. He wants to cut this, that, and the other. If we had trusted his motives, we'd say, okay well maybe we can talk about it. But, I think I and many other Americans distrust him, because he's made clear in some of his writings and other things that he thinks the imperialist nations need to be restrained, that they need to be downgraded, that the great imperialist powers should no longer be allowed to roam freely on the globe. Furthermore, he does not believe in American exceptionalism. So we've got a president who is suspect. So when he comes out with these massive cuts, you say, “Well, are you really doing something for the budget? Are you really trying to just diminish us?” And it’s certainly true with the budget. Some of those proposals in there for spending and cuts, especially in taxes, really make no economic sense at all. All they do is it’s an attempt to level the playing field, to establish what he calls “fairness,” which means that this guy's got a little bit more money than the other one, and he should be brought down a level. Well, that isn't good economic policy. So he has an agenda; and that's the problem we're dealing with here, ladies and gentlemen, is that we've got a man in charge of this country who has an agenda; and we question is that agenda in keeping with the long-range goals of the United States of America, and I question it. Lee Webb has the rest of our top stories from the CBN Newsroom. Lee.
PRIMARY RACES
LEE WEBB: Pat, polls are predicting a tight race between Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum in Michigan's Republican primary today. Romney is hoping to reclaim frontrunner status, and Santorum is making a powerful bid in Romney's native state. Losing Michigan would be a major blow to Romney, and it could throw the Republican race into chaos. But momentum appears to be on Romney's side. He has moved up in the polls recently. David Brody and John Waage will join me for a live update on the Michigan and Arizona primaries tonight on The 700 Club on the Family Channel, and we will have a full report on the results with David and Pat on tomorrow's 700 Club. Pat, any predictions?
PAT ROBERTSON: Yes, my prediction is that Mitt's going to take it in both states. He certainly is way ahead in the polls in Arizona, and it seems to be Santorum is not close. In terms of Michigan, I think people are beginning to think that possibly some of Santorum's statements are a little bit extreme for a general election candidate, and they're beginning to come back to Mitt. So it was close for a time, but right now Mitt’s closing the gap; and it seems, as we're getting right close to the election today, that the sentiment in Michigan is going to favor Romney. We'll see what comes out, but that would be my forecast. Lee.
HEALTH CARE UNPOPULAR
LEE WEBB: President Obama’s healthcare law is hurting in the so-called “swing” states, places where the election is up for grabs. A new USA Today-Gallup poll shows 53 percent of registered voters in those states think the healthcare law is a bad thing. Thirty-eight percent believe it's good; 42 percent say it makes things worse for their families; only 20 percent think it makes things better; and 76 percent believe the mandate that every American buy health insurance is unconstitutional. Only 19 percent believe it’s constitutional.
“WE’RE BROKE”
LEE WEBB: Britain's top financial official says his government is out of money. George Osborne says the UK doesn't have the money to increase spending in the next budget, and he says it can't afford tax cuts either. Osborne is the equivalent of the US Sec. of the Treasury. He says the British government has run out of money, because all the money was spent in the good years. Pat.
PAT ROBERTSON: That’s right. Well, they're saying what we are saying about United States. The money just isn't there, and the Liberals have got to understand that you just cannot spend forever and ever and ever without quote, “Running out of money.” So you've got a high British official that's telling the truth, and we wish that Geithner and some of them in charge of the United States would tell the truth about where we are. You can't keep on spending deficits at about 40 percent of your budget every year without having serious consequences. So we're in that phase right now, and it doesn't look good. It's amazing, in Washington, there's nobody that wants to compromise. There's no compromise, no spirit of putting the country first. It's always partisanship, and the partisanship is going to kill us. Lee.
OHIO SCHOOL SHOOTING
LEE WEBB: A second teenager now is dead after Monday's high school shooting in the small city of Chardon, Ohio. Three others are seriously wounded, and an entire community is just trying to make sense of it all. Efrem Graham has the story.
EFREM GRAHAM: It’s a nightmare that could happen in any community. Now Chardon, Ohio is forever changed. At 7:30 Monday morning, a gunman walked into the high school cafeteria and opened fire.
Dispatcher: We have an active shooter at the high school. Repeat, active gunshots at the high school.
EFREM GRAHAM: Students who were there say they heard a loud “pop” and then chaos.
Nate Mueller (Witnessed Shooting): It was terror. Everything had just gone tunnel vision. You see glances of your friends laying all over the place. There is blood. His people screaming. Everybody's running in different directions, and you're just trying to get out.
EFREM GRAHAM: The schools assistant football coach witnessed the shootings and jumped into action, chasing the suspect from the building. Today the coaches being hailed a hero, and the suspect is in police custody, identified as 17-year-old TJ Lane. Lane was not a student at Chardon high school. He attended an alternative school for troubled students and was reportedly only at Chardon to wait for his bus. Friends, family, and members of the community gathered last night at a candlelight vigil to pray for the injured victims and to remember 16-year-old Danny Parmertor who did not survive his injuries.
Tabitha Johnson (Chardon Resident): I can't say I understand, because I don't on any level.
Dean Carlo (Youth Minister, Chardon): This is not something that Chardon wanted to be known for, and it has to stop today.
EFREM GRAHAM: Efrem Graham, CBN News.
LEE WEBB: Authorities say the school's quick reaction to the gunshots saved lives. Teachers locked their doors immediately and instructed their students to take cover. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the suspect's father has been arrested many times are violent crimes against women.
NO WARNING
LEE WEBB: Israel will not alert the US ahead of time if it decides to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities. Israeli officials say the move is to protect the US. That way the US cannot be held responsible for failing to stop an Israeli attack. American officials have been working for months to convince Israel and attack would be only a temporary setback to Iran's nuclear program. Pat.
PAT ROBERTSON: It’s amazing how little by little, they're laying the groundwork for an attack. March, April, May, three months. One of those three months it looks like is the time that somebody will attack, and they cannot allow Iran to harden those facilities. It indicates that we have indications that during these months, certainly before the summer, they will have the centrifuges in hardened sites that can no longer be dislodged by air strikes by the Israelis, and the only people that can get them out is the huge bunker buster bombs of the United States or a nuclear strike itself. Israel is not willing to do that and perhaps doesn't have the bombs capable of doing it. Only the United States does, and they won't go to war. Lee.
WASHINGTON’S FAREWELL
LEE WEBB: Pat, George Washington's prayer and farewell address had been read aloud again on the US Senate floor. It is an annual tradition there. Senate chaplain Barry Black opened Monday's session by reading Washington's prayer for the nation. In that prayer Washington sought God's protection and favor, quote, “Through Jesus Christ our Lord.” And in his farewell address, Washington wrote, “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.” And, Pat, the sad thing is that when Sen. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, read that aloud on the Senate floor, the farewell address, not a single US senator was present on the Senate floor.
PAT ROBERTSON: Awful. That’s why we had a great president. The father of our country was a man of deep faith, but to say he was some sort of an atheist or he was a Unitarian or it was this, that and the other, he was a dedicated believer in Jesus Christ, and he spoke about our Lord Jesus Christ. And he says of all the dispositions that religion is indispensable, indispensable for public morality, and you cannot expect public morality in the absence of religious principle. He gave it to us. He laid out a right course, and we hope and pray that the American people somehow will listen to that and wake up. Terry.
TERRY MEEUWSEN: Well, up next, a church hosting a Christmas service becomes the target of a deadly terror attack.
Man: The explosion threw me back, and my son was hurled across the other side. Around me I could see bodies on fire.
TERRY MEEUWSEN: See who's behind these attacks and what the victims have to say to them, when we come back.

PAT ROBERTSON: Everywhere you turn around their are terrorists, somebody blowing up somebody else. Well, an African group that's now linked to Al Qaeda has declared war on Nigeria's Christians. Islamic fighters have killed scores in multiple attacks on Christian homes and churches. There have been calls for revenge, but among the Christians, forgiveness. George Thomas brings this remarkable story from Kano, Nigeria.

December 25, 2011
8:26 a.m.
Father Isaac Achi: It was a beautiful day. We came to church to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. People started coming as early as six o'clock in the morning. It was going to be a joyous occasion.
GEORGE THOMAS: But it never turned out that way. A suicide bomber in a vehicle packed with explosives drove up this busy street and stopped in front of the church. Uche Bonaventure and his 17-month-old son had just walked out the church's front doors when the bomb exploded.
Uche Bonaventure (Survived Suicide Bombing):The explosion threw me back, and my son was hurled across the other side. Around me I could see bodies on fire.
GEORGE THOMAS (Madalla, Nigeria): Within minutes, husbands became widowers, wives became widows, children became orphans and parents were childless. The suicide bomber knew precisely when to strike. It was shortly after 8 a.m. that Christmas morning as one service was concluding, and the next one was about to begin. Twenty-six of the 44 people who died that day attended St. Theresa's church.
Father Issac Achi (St. Theresa’s Catholic Church Madalla): The people who carried out this attack are under the influence of the devil. They have only evil in their heart, and they want to divide us.
GEORGE THOMAS: The radical Muslim group Boko Haram claimed responsibility for this attack and several more attacks in other parts of Nigeria that Christmas Day. Boko Haram’s goal is to turn Africa's most populous nation into an Islamic country.
Uche Bonaventure: I am very angry at them. We didn't do anything to deserve this. But if they are trying to get me to respond out of anger, I will not.
GEORGE THOMAS: He and his son spent several weeks in the hospital recovering from third-degree burns. Today you'll find him and his family praying for their attackers.
Uche Bonaventure: I want God to touch their hearts so that they will know that what they are doing is not good.
GEORGE THOMAS: A sentiment echoed in Father Achi's sermons about the importance of forgiveness.
Father Issac Achi: I have personally forgiven them, but what I need from Boko Haram is that they should repent and stop doing this evil work and confess.
GEORGE THOMAS: That, however, isn’t likely to happen anytime soon. In January alone, Boko Haram struck 21 times, killing more than 250 people. Nine hundred plus have died in recent months in multiple attacks around the country. Two hundred miles north of St. Theresa's church Ester Garba . . . .
Ester Garba (Husband Killed in Bomb Attack):So many people loved my husband. He loved to share the Gospel with others.
GEORGE THOMAS: . . . . Isaac Kure . . . .
Isaac Kure (Father Killed in Bomb Attack): They would not let me see my father's body. He was beyond recognition.
GEORGE THOMAS: . . . . Margaret Frames . . . .
Margaret Frames (Husband Killed in Attack): He was shot in the mouth, in the elbow, and in the back.
GEORGE THOMAS: . . . . and Salametu Joshua . . . .
Salametu Joshua (Husband Killed in Bomb Attack): I am asking God to bring peace to our city.
GEORGE THOMAS: . . . . are blanketing northern Nigeria's most important city of Kano with prayer. On Jan. 20th, 26 days after the Christmas Day massacre, Boko Haram killed 185 people in a string of coordinated attacks in Kano. It was the group's deadliest strike to date. Among the dead were the loved ones of these Christian families.
Margaret Frames: I can't do anything to bring my husband back. All I can do is trust in God. The Bible says we should love our enemies and pray for them.
GEORGE THOMAS: A Boko Haram spokesman has declared war on Nigeria's government, the security services, and the country's Christians. In a video released online, he say’s “I enjoy killing anyone that God commands me to kill the way I enjoy killing chickens and rams.” In January the group gave Christians three days to leave the north or be attacked.
(Kano, Nigeria): And the Christians in the state of Kano are very, very much on edge. So many of them are beginning to consider the idea of leaving the state and moving south. We spoke to some of them who are very fearful and concerned that the security apparatus is not in a position to protect them. Nigeria is evenly split between Christians in the south and Muslims in the north. Kano is overwhelmingly Muslim. Extremist groups routinely use the city and surrounding the areas as a base of operation.
Joshua (Nigerian Evangelist): It is very difficult to share the Gospel here in the extreme northern parts of Nigeria.
GEORGE THOMAS: Joshua works quietly as an evangelist in northern Nigeria. CBN News agreed to conceal his identity to protect him. He says the indigenous people consider Christians here as invaders and members of a Western religion.
Joshua: I was born and raised here. I'm part of the north; yet, because, I'm a Christian I am viewed and treated as a 2nd, 3rd or 4th-class citizen.
GEORGE THOMAS: And now he fears Boko Haram is trying to spark a religious war by provoking Christians into attacking Muslims. Some Christian neighborhoods are taking measures to defend themselves. Others like rely on God for protection and take comfort in His Word.
Garba: Even when I walk through the dark valley of death, I will not be afraid for you are close beside me.
GEORGE THOMAS: George Thomas, CBN News, Kano, Nigeria.
PAT ROBERTSON: Thanks, George. “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.” Those people are so brave. They are so brave and so courageous. We don't know what it's like to have our lives on the line defending our faith. One day it may come to America. It hasn't come yet. But around the world people are suffering for their faith, and we need to stand with them in prayer, stand with them in our giving, stand with them in whatever material way we can to make sure that they have a knowledge that somebody's with them, but they are not alone. Terry.
TERRY MEEUWSEN: Well, coming up, a teenager he comes a topless dancer.
Woman: I looked in the paper and it said, “Make $1000 a week.” So I thought, “You know what? I can do that.”
TERRY MEEUWSEN: Find out why she became a stripper and what set her free when we come back. And then later, that's going to answer questions from our live chat room.

LEE WEBB: To listen to our top songs of the week, go to CBN radio at CBN.com.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
PAT ROBERTSON: May I ask you something? What gets some girl, woman, into the sex trade? What is it that makes somebody to become a prostitute or a stripper? Well, as a teenager, Teresa started stripping for one simple reason. She needed some money, or she wanted the money. She had the same motive when she became a prostitute, but Teresa soon found out there was more to that career than she bargained for.
TERESA RICHENBERGER
Teresa Richenberger: You’re capturing everybody’s attention. You’re in the spotlight. A thousand dollars a week! I thought I was on top of the world. Your body comes alive. It was the money. How could I refuse it?
DEBBIE WHITE: Easy money. That’s what seduced 17-year-old Teresa Richenberger into topless dancing.
Teresa: I needed a job. I had already run away from home, and I looked in the paper; and it said, “Make $1,000 a week.” A thousand dollars a week?! So I thought, “You know what? I can do that.” I was a little nervous; but at the same time, you could feel this sense of power that, as a woman to capture, a man’s attention that way. I did make great money, but I never had anything to show for it. I spent it like crazy. As fast as I could make it in one hand, it was gone in the other.
DEBBIE WHITE: Teresa quickly found that the sense of power was fleeting, too.
Teresa: You start actually hating men, because you feel like they’re using you. You want to use them and hurt them before they can do that to you. So inside I was just, I was hard.
DEBBIE WHITE: She took the edge off with drugs and alcohol.
Teresa: I couldn’t take life any more. I couldn’t deal with looking in the mirror and seeing myself. I would have to do shots of tequila and stuff in order just to go into the clubs, just to start working, after awhile.
DEBBIE WHITE: The promise of more money drew Teresa into prostitution.
Teresa: I had learned the game. I had mastered it. I mean, I could name my own price and how much I wanted to charge for my body, not anyone else, how much I wanted to charge.
I started drinking more, because even though I thought I had all this money, and control and power, there was always something missing. I had a hole inside that was aching. I hit rock bottom in my late 20s. I had thrown a party at my house, and I’d been drinking for a couple days straight. I was doing drugs on top of that, plus also taking prescription drugs. I couldn’t keep up with everything. I couldn’t keep up with the game that my life was playing.
DEBBIE WHITE: Teresa overdosed in a near-lethal combination of drugs, alcohol, and medication.
Teresa: I can remember the doctor looking to me and saying, “What made you do that? What is so bad in your life?” He’s said, “I see a pretty girl here.”
DEBBIE WHITE: But on the inside, she felt broken.
Teresa: The spirit that lives in me had already died. There was nothing left of Teresa in there. It was just a shell.
DEBBIE WHITE: After she got out of the hospital, another ad caught her attention.
Teresa: A little ad in this newspaper that said, “Community Chapel.” And the pastor’s name was Pastor Kenneth Four, and he said, “You’re invited to come.” I remember sitting there and had on probably my shortest dress, and my spiked heels and thinking that was what you were supposed to wear. They didn’t turn their backs on me with what I was wearing or how low my dress was or how short. They didn’t tell me to get out. They stayed with me, and they prayed with me. And at the end, when they had altar call, I went down; and I invited Jesus into my heart that night. Well, He didn’t have to choose me, and He did.
DEBBIE WHITE: Immediately, her cravings for drugs and alcohol stopped, and she got out of prostitution.
Teresa: I made that church my home church. I would go every Sunday morning, and I would go Wednesday nights. But, at the same time, I had not totally sold out to God. I’d go back in the club for a week and work at night and not tell anyone, just so I could save some money. That’s what I kept telling myself, “Oh, it’s just for a little bit longer.”
DEBBIE WHITE: For two years, she struggled to get out of the strip clubs. When she got a job on a ranch, Teresa was finally free.
Teresa: After I started really surrendering everything to God, I could feel that He wanted me to do more for Him. Then it wasn’t just about me. It was about helping others as I had been helped. And so He wanted me to start doing ministry for Him. He wanted me to start telling others about Him.
DEBBIE WHITE: Today, Teresa teaches a woman’s Bible study at her church and enjoys spending time with her husband, Wayne. She tells everyone she can about how Jesus set her free.
Teresa: I am filled beyond belief. I have joy. I have peace. I have a family. I have a husband, a home, a ministry. It’s just more than I could have ever dreamt up myself or even wished for. If He can take me and change me, and He did, He can do it for anybody.

PAT MINISTERING
PAT ROBERTSON: Glamour, glamour, the red carpets, the lights, the rhinestone cowboy. The lights are turning on you. There you are and these men are lusting after you, and it looks so attractive, but is it? Well, Teresa knew. She said inside she had died. She was empty inside. Some of you, you’ve tried drugs; you’ve tried promiscuous sex; you’ve tried having an affair. Maybe you’ve gone into pornography. Maybe you’ve gone into stripping or something like that. But let me tell you, sooner or later you’ll wind up empty like Teresa. You’ll wind up dry and alone and sad. And Jesus says to you, “I forgive you. Whatever you’ve done, I forgive you because I died for you. I didn’t die to condemn you. I died to forgive you.” What is your problem as you listen to this program? What have you done? What sin is in your life? The Bible says, “Wash me and make me clean. Wash me and make me clean. Restore unto me the joy of my salvation and take not your Holy Spirit from me.” God wants you to have joy and peace, and He’ll put you into a situation where you are fulfilled. Do you want that? Please, please say yes. Don’t turn Him down. You’ll pay the price. Don’t turn him down. He’s offering you joy unspeakable and full of glory, and He’s offering you complete forgiveness. So, I want you to pray with me right now. Bow your head wherever you are and pray these words. “Jesus,” pray with me. “Jesus, you know who I am. You know what I’ve done. You know the person I am, and you know what’s going on in my heart. Lord, I know you love me and I want to respond today to that love. So, Lord, I reach out to you, even as you’ve reached out to me, and I say come into my heart. Live your life in me, and I will live for you, and I will serve you all the days of my life. Thank you, Lord, for hearing my prayer, and thank you for setting me free from bondage and sin. Thank you, Lord.” Now, for those who prayed with me I want to pray for you. Father, In Jesus’ name for those who prayed that prayer, may the anointing of the Holy Spirit come upon them. Touch them with mighty power in the name of Jesus. Thank you, Lord. Amen. What a day!

NEWSBREAK
LEE WEBB: Welcome back to The 700 Club.
SLEEPING PILL DANGER
LEE WEBB: A new study raises concern for the millions of Americans who use sleeping pills. They could increase the risk of death. The British Medical Journal published the study. It shows that people who use sleeping pills over a two-year period are three and a half times more likely to die. That’s because insomnia is often a symptom of something more serious.
Doctor: The higher death rates seen in people using sleeping pills may well reflect the diseases that they have which bring the insomnia about.
LEE WEBB: Insomnia can be a warning sign of heart disease, diabetes and even cancer. Doctors warn that taking sleeping pills for insomnia might actually keep patients from learning of more serious conditions.
ER DENTAL CARE
LEE WEBB: More Americans are going to the emergency room these days for dental care. A study by the Pew Center on the States says the number of people visiting the ER for routine dental care rose by 16 percent between 2006 and 2009. One reason, a shortage of dentists, particularly those who treat Medicaid patients. Going to the ER is about 10 times more expensive than preventive care. In 2010, more than 115,000 people visited the emergency room for dental care at a cost of about 88 million dollars. You can always get the latest from CBN News by going to our website at CBNNEWS.com.

TERRY MEEUWSEN: This winter has been one of the coldest in years throughout Ukraine, and the brutal conditions have led the government to actually declare it a natural disaster. While people across the country are at risk of freezing, many of them are getting some much needed help from CBN.
MIKHAIL FREEZING
DAN REANY: Across Eastern Europe, families continue to face a Siberian style winter. Temperatures have hit record lows, dropping to 20 degrees below zero. In Western Ukraine, hundreds of gypsy families don’t even have warm coats, and children collect every scrap of firewood they can find.
Mikhail: We have nothing to help us keep warm, neither a good stove nor wood.
Mikhail’s Son: I stay inside all day, but I’m still freezing.
DAN REANY: Mikhail’s wife recently had surgery and is still in the hospital, so he’s taking care of their children.
Mikhail: I wanted to fix my house to withstand the cold, but I have no money.
DAN REANY: Nearly three quarters of the gypsies in this area are under the age of 10. CBN knew these children and their families desperately needed help, so we traveled through the ice and snow to reach them.
Man: Our team felt sick after breathing the smoke for just five minutes. Without a new stove, the children could suffocate. We gave them a new one. It burns sufficiently and will do the job of keeping the house warm without hurting the children.
Mikhail: People came to us, began to work immediately and fixed my whole house.
DAN REANY: We also insulated their house and many others, gave families warm blankets and treated children’s cuts and scrapes.
Mikhail’s son: They brought us warm clothes and wood, too.
DAN REANY: The supplies provided by CBN will help these families endure the long, harsh winter.
Mikhail: It is still freezing outside, but we are warm inside. May the Lord bless you.
Mikhail’s Son: I thank God, and I thank you.

TERRY MEEUWSEN: Coming with this kind of help into such a place of need opens the hearts of people to hear about the love of Jesus. The gypsy people, they’re called Roma; people have so little. Most of them are uneducated, don’t read. Their children are not going to school. They live in isolated areas. They are really outcasts in society. The places we visited had no running water for sometimes communities of a couple thousand people. Can you imagine? Now it’s winter, 30 below. Some houses, no windows. You’re allowing us to come into the middle of that incredible need, that harshness, and say, “There are people who love you, who see you as children of God who want to care for you and come along side of you.” You can’t know what a difference you’re making. If you’re a 700 Club member, that’s the kind of work you do around the world. It’s 65 cents a day, just $20 a month, to become a part of what we’re doing worldwide, as well as here in the United States of America. Join with us. We can make such a difference when we all link arms together and say, “Yes, we’re out to touch the world.” Our number is toll free. It’s 1-800-759-0700. Just call and say, “I want to join the 700 Club. You can touch the lives of the Roma people and literally hundreds of thousands of others who are hurting and just need a hand up. We want to say thank you for caring about other and joining by sending you The Quest for God when you make your phone call. This is a fabulous teaching on the different faiths of the world and what is it that makes Christianity stand out amongst them. What is it that makes our God such an amazing Father, such an amazing provider. We want you to have this. We want you to learn about what’s going on in the world and, also, why we believe what we believe. So, when you call and join the 700 Club, we’re going to send that to you right away, 1-800-759-0700, and I should say you can also log on to CBN.com and join with us that way.

BRING IT ON
TERRY MEEUWSEN: Want to answer some questions?
PAT ROBERTSON: Let’s do it. Let’s do it. I’m all set.
TERRY MEEUWSEN: This is Mandy who says, “Hi Pat. I’m 12 years old, and my parents keep talking about the end times. It sounds really scary. What’s it going to be like when Jesus comes back?
PAT ROBERTSON: Well, Mandy, I don’t mean to scare you; but the truth is if we listen to what Jesus said, there’s going to be a tough time. The Bible talks about a tribulation, but if you read Revelation, God is going to shake the world. The world has lived in sin all over, not just here, but all over. We’ve got all these false religions; we’ve got people that are worshipping the devil. We’ve got people who are killing and murdering. It’s all over this world, and God is going to call the world into judgment, and there are going to be natural disasters that will be very unpleasant. So, that’s the bad thing. The good thing is that Jesus Christ is coming back; and when He comes back, He’s going to take those who belong to Him, and He’s going to lift them up into a new heaven and a new earth. They’re going to be, at least, in paradise; and they’ll be with Him forever, and that’s our hope. But, going into it there may be some difficult times. So, don’t be afraid, because the Lord has got you in His hand. If you love Jesus, He’ll look after you; but He may take you through some bad things. I do not believe, but some do, that we’re going to get raptured out of here as soon as something bad happens. I don’t believe that. I believe, from what you read, the church of Philadelphia, “I will keep you, from the hour that’s going try the whole earth, I’ll keep you in the midst of it.” I’m not going to take you out of it. I’m going to keep you, and He will take care of you. But it can be difficult times. But let me tell you this. Whether you’re 12 years old or 120, dying is not the worst thing in the world. It really isn’t. If you die in Jesus, you’re going to be with Him. Your spirit’s going to be set free, and you’re going to be there forever, so it’s not bad. So, you don’t have to be afraid. All right.
TERRY MEEUWSEN: This is Christinea who says, “Recently I saw a news report that stated Orange County, California, had passed a law that prohibits personal Bible studies in a home. How can this be allowed, and what can we do to stop this from happening in other parts of the United States?”
PAT ROBERTSON: I don’t know precisely about that, but I think they were using zoning ordinances to say that if you’re having a big Bible study in your home, that it’s a church; and, therefore, churches have to be restricted to certain parts of the neighborhood. That is in litigation right now, and I don’t think it’s been totally resolved. But I do believe that the courts will come down on the side of allowing people to have it in their home. I mean, if you had big cocktail party in your home, nobody would try to shut you down, unless you were just making a riot; and they can’t do it with Bible study, either. They shouldn’t, but that’s what they’re talking about. All right.
TERRY MEEUWSEN: This is Ashley who says, “All my life, I’ve prayed to Jesus and God. Recently, my family is no longer using the name Jesus. They’ve replaced it with Yeshua. They told me that the name “Jesus” has pagan roots and that there’s more power when using the real name of Yeshua. I felt so lost when I heard this. Does the name really matter?”
PAT ROBERTSON: I wouldn’t get all hung up on this. Some people are all hung up on, you know, the word in Hebrew is “Yeshua,” and it means it’s Jehovah Savior. So, it comes out of the term Yahweh, “I am Savior.” But whether you say it in English, “Jesus” isn’t some pagan name. That’s the name He’s been known by for those of us who love Him, and He knows who you are and what you’re talking about. So don’t worry about it.
TERRY MEEUWSEN: Mm-hm. Pray with gusto.
PAT ROBERTSON: Yeah.
TERRY MEEUWSEN: This is Cindy who says, “My husband and I have been disputing this for years, and I’m hoping you can settle this for us. I say Abraham was a Muslim before God called him. My husband says the opposite. Can you please clarify once and for all?”
PAT ROBERTSON: Heavens, no. Abraham was not a Muslim. Abraham lived about 1,900 years before Christ. Mohammed and Muslims came on about 500 years after Christ, so there’s about a 2,500-year gap. Abraham was the patriarch from whom Arabs came along with Jews, but he was not a Muslim. Oh, please, that’d drive me crazy to even think about it. All right, what’s next?
TERRY MEEUWSEN: William says, “Pat, does someone have to be baptized to be saved? It seems like a lot of Christians fail to mention the importance of being baptized when they lead people to the Lord.
PAT ROBERTSON: Well, I think you should. It’s an outward evidence of an inner grace, as they say. But the apostle, Paul, said, “I’m glad I didn’t baptize.” He said, oh yeah, the house of Christmas and Gayas, I baptized some of them. But God didn’t send me to baptize, but to preach the Gospel. Now, if baptism was important for salvation, then Paul would have definitely included baptism along with preaching, but he said, “God called me to preach. I did baptize a few, but not many.” But, I think if you are a Christian, you certainly want to move forward into baptism which, if you read Romans 6 and so forth, it tells the tale, what is the significance of it. All right.
TERRY MEEUWSEN: And there is a sort of an anchoring when someone publicly says . . . .
PAT ROBERTSON: Yeah.
TERRY MEEUWSEN: I’m committing my life to Christ. Something happens.
PAT ROBERTSON: Well, it’s a symbol of washing away of the old and turning into the new so that you’ve been born again, and you’re washed with the renewing of water and the Spirit; and it has a great deal of significance. As I say, read in the Word and get more about it, but I certainly think that if you know the Lord, then you should be baptized.
TERRY MEEUWSEN: Okay, well, that’s all the time we have for questions today. We thank you. We love hearing from you, and we’ll try to answer more of your questions tomorrow. Well, medically speaking, Prit Adams should not be alive today. He suffered two back-to-back brain aneurisms, and his CT scans revealed permanent and severe neurological impairment. But we’re about to show you something that wasn’t on his medical records, the power of prayer.

PRIT ADAMS
MICHELLE WILSON: Pritchard Adams served as a missionary to Haiti for 28 years. He was visiting Canada the morning he felt a pain so severe in his head that he collapsed to the bathroom floor. By the time paramedics arrived, his condition had gotten worse.
Dana Adams: Prit grabbed the back of his neck, and his eyes just glazed over; and he went unconscious, and they immediately put the oxygen mask on him and whisked him away.
MICHELLE WILSON: In the emergency room, doctors discovered a subarachnoid hemorrhage. An artery at the base of his skull had burst, filling the space between his skull and the thin membrane covering the brain. Nearly half of all people with a ruptured brain aneurysm die, and those who survive likely have severe brain damage.
Dana Adams: They had to put a drain in his head to draw the blood out of his head, and he just had tubes coming out from everywhere. When I saw the look on the doctor’s face and heard the report of the aneurysm that there were few survivors that survived a brain aneurysm, I knew that things were very, very grave.
MICHELLE WILSON: Doctors performed surgery to stop the bleeding. But Prit had already slipped into a coma. They didn’t expect him to live through the night. By this time, people around the globe were praying and fasting for Prit’s recovery.
Dana Adams: We just immediately started to pray and decided that we would let the medical community do their job and that we would do the thing that we knew how to do best and that was to stand by his bed.
MIA EVANS-SARACUAL: Prit survived, but not without complications. His blood pressure soared, and he developed pneumonia and an infection. Doctors warned Dana that if Prit had a second aneurysm that he would not survive. Two days later, he went into cardiac arrest, and he had a second artery explode in his head.
Doctor: Call a code. Get a crash cart. We need an epi, now!
Dana Adams: I knew, at that moment, that Prit was slipping out of my hands and that if God did not intervene, we were going to lose him. And immediately I stood by his bed and I started rebuking the spirit of death. And I said, “No, you cannot come here. You have no authority in this place.” And I just began to declare, “Life, Prit, life! Live, Prit, live!”
MICHELLE WILSON: Doctors resuscitated Prit and began to prep him for the surgery to repair the second artery that had burst. But before they could operate, something changed.
Dana Adams: The neurosurgeon came in, and he shook his head and he said, “Mrs. Adams, your husband is a perplexity to us. Three times now he has skirted death. We were getting ready, prepping him to take him in to do brain surgery to find out where the hemorrhaging was coming from, and an hour ago he started to improve. We do not understand, and all we can do right now is just say that we will follow his progress.
MICHELLE WILSON: Doctors were not optimistic about his full recovery. CAT scans showed the speech and motor areas of Prit’s brain were badly damaged and that he would have permanent and severe neurological impairment.
Dana Adams: We got very, very tired, and wept, and wondered how long this trial was going to last. But I always believed that God was going to somehow heal my husband.
MICHELLE WILSON: Dana’s faith never wavered. She reminded God of His promise to take care of them.
Dana Adams: “And you said in the day of adversity that I could call on you, and today is a day of adversity. I need you and I need you now, because there is no hope. There is no way my husband is going to come out of this unless you give me a miracle, Lord.”
MICHELLE WILSON: On July 27th, 23 days after the first aneurysm, Prit woke up; and a few days later he started to speak.
Dana Adams: We prayed that he would start talking. When he started talking, he wouldn’t stop.
MICHELLE WILSON: After 52 days in the hospital, Prit left in good condition. Today, Prit has fully recovered except for some short-term memory loss. He walks two miles a day and is looking forward to going back to minister in Haiti.
Prit Adams: I am more thankful than ever for my wife and for my children, for my family, for the spiritual family that we have in Haiti, the churches that we have, the believers that we have. I am thankful for every moment now, for every minute that we have and more than ever before.
Dana Adams: I’m grateful that I have my husband back. I’m grateful that I have the father of my children back, my lifelong partner, my soul mate, my best friend. I would encourage whoever received a report that contained no hope, for them to take that report to the Lord. Prayer and the Word of God are greater than anything they could face.

HOSTS PRAY FOR NEEDS
TERRY MEEUWSEN: And it’s greater than whatever you’re facing today, too. What an amazing story!
PAT ROBERTSON: What an amazing miracle!
TERRY MEEUWSEN: Only God.
PAT ROBERTSON: Yeah. I’m sure, you know, anybody that knows anything about medicine, you say, “He’s gone. Let’s face it.” Two brain aneurisms, you’re out of here. “It’s just too bad, or he’ll be a vegetable and write him off,” but that wife wouldn’t. She didn’t let go. “God, you’ve got to do it. God, you’ve got to do it.” We have one more testimony, and then we’ve got to get out of here.
TERRY MEEUWSEN: We do. This is Brandi. She lives in Arkansas. She was suffering with terrible morning sickness, I mean extreme, vomiting so much she lost 20 lbs., suffered severe dehydration, was hospitalized. She was diagnosed with something called hyperemesis gravid arum and prescribed medication, hospitalized eight times and on home health care. She stopped taking steroids that were prescribed, because she heard they’d cause birth defects. One day she’s watching this program. She’s vomiting and depressed; and, Pat, you said there’s a woman, and I believe it’s morning sickness. You’re having a terrible time with vomiting and sickness. Right now God has touched you. You’re system’s going to settle down. That nausea will leave you in Jesus’ name.” The nausea stopped immediately. She had no more symptoms. She’s gained two pounds, no more problems. Her baby is due May 28.
PAT ROBERTSON: Praise God, the miracle baby. We’ve got just a few seconds to pray, but wherever you are, all things are possible. Father, touch people in Jesus’ name. Heal their bodies, heal their minds and their spirits. In the name of Jesus, touch! Amen. Wherever you are, give God the glory and give Him the praise.
