No-one in XianHua’s remote village had ever seen someone like her before. Classmates wouldn’t even call her by name.
“So when you are living paycheck to paycheck it is very stressful,” says Sue Ellen. “You are trying to live your life and enjoy things, but constantly thinking okay if we do this, then I’ve got to pay for that.” Sue Ellen and Gene were like many American families living paycheck to paycheck, with little or no savings, and looking for a way out.
