When Everything Goes Wrong at Once

Adam and Katie cherish every day that their family is together because Adam is an infantry fireman in the Army and is deployed for months at a time. In fact he has deployed to Afghanistan three times, for a total of more than two years. Katie is extremely proud of his service.

Katie says, “He works really hard. He’s very committed to his job. And I feel like he prioritizes really well and I respect that he provides so well for us.”

Adam is grateful Katie does such a spectacular job when he’s away.

“She runs the household by herself. And that’s a job that I admire.”

“It feels pretty good to have him recognize how hard I work to make sure that things are stable here so he doesn’t have to worry,” adds Katie.

But the family faced some challenges.  Their oven didn’t work properly and their dishwasher broke.  Their deck was falling apart and their door didn’t shut right.  With Katie expecting their third child they also need bunk beds for the girls to make room for the baby. But there was no extra money for any of those things.

Adam admits, “I absolutely get frustrated when things don’t turn out the way you expect or plan. But all you can do is keep going, relying on god and just,  keep pushing through and got to be resilient.”

The couple attends a military support group called Reboot Combat Recovery (RCR).  RCR asked Helping the Home Front to assist and we agreed. Leaders Evan and Jenny sat down with the couple and told them CBN was buying them a new dishwasher and oven.

“I’m going to be able to leave something in the oven and it’s going to get cooked," says Katie exuberantly. "It’s so exciting.”

RCR also told them CBN was paying to fix the door and build a new deck.   Contractors came in, and in two days, repaired the door and completely re-built the deck.  And there was one more surprise for Adam and Katie.

Evan of RCR says, “There’s going to be new bunk beds.  Which is awesome. And a dresser to go along with that.  We saw them today and they are awesome.”

Then it was time for a field trip to pick out their appliances and take their girls to see their new bunk beds.  Ashley’s Home Furnishings was so excited about theHelping the Home Front program they donated the mattress and comforter sets!  This Army family now awaits the arrival of their new addition without financial stress.

“I’m so grateful that Jenny and Evan and Reboot Combat Recovery chose to recognize us and CBN helped them do that.  It’s amazing.”
