Boy's New Vision Helps Dream Come True

Thirteen-year-old Akash dreams of becoming a doctor, but fulfilling that dream became less likely every day.  A cataract was causing him to go blind in his left eye.

Akash explained, "I am unable to see what the teacher writes on the board.  Sometimes my classmates tease me and call me 'the blind one.'  It hurts me so much."

Akash's parents can’t pay for a cataract surgery.  His mother works in the fields of southern India, and his father has a job three hundred miles away at a cement company.  Both their incomes barely feed their five children.

Akash's mother said, "When we took him to the hospital, we found out that we didn't even have enough money to pay for a check up.  We didn't know what to do."

But then CBN heard about Akash and immediately gave him a free cataract surgery.

Akash joyfully said, "When the bandage was removed, I was very happy!  I could see clearly!"

Akash's renewed eyesight improved his confidence at home and school.

"I'm happy that I can now help my mom do things around the house and take care of other chores, like going to the store and bringing home the groceries," explained Akash.  "And at school, I am able to see the letters on the black board and study well.  Now every one in class likes me, and I’m making lots of friends.  I am so thankful that CBN sponsored my cataract surgery.  Because of you, I am confident that I can become a doctor."
