Home Alone at 5 and 3 Years Old
Five-year-old Karuna and her three-year-old sister, Gayathri, lost their father a couple years ago. He was electrocuted while repairing a motor at his job. Their mother, Durga, never went to school, so she had no choice but to work in the fields.
Karuna said, "We are so sad when our mother goes to work and leaves us all alone. We would be happy if she could stay at home."
Durga explained, "What I am earning is not even enough to buy food for my daughters and myself."
Then one day, a local pastor told her about a free CBN sponsored sewing course.
"I learned how to sew all kinds of things, like dresses, blouses and skirts," said Durga.
Durga wanted to put her new skills to use by starting her own business, but she had no money to purchase a sewing machine. So after she completed the six-month sewing course, we gave her a brand new one.
"I was very happy when I got the sewing machine," Durga said with a smile. "Now I don't have to leave home to make a living. It's so nice to take care of my daughters and know that I can provide for all their needs."
Karuna joyfully explained, "We are not alone any more. Our mother can now stay home with us and cook us hot meals. Thank you for giving us the sewing machine."
