Empty Stomach, Starving Brain
After a typhoon destroyed their home and David lost his parents, he went to live with an aunt. But she struggled to provide for them. David did odd jobs around the community for food and a few coins.
“I asked my neighbor if could he would give me food if I delivered the water to them,” said David with a smile. “Sometimes my neighbor asked me to fill six jugs. One jug is worth 10 cents.”
The always optimistic teen was still hungry though, even after working many hours a day delivering water. So, he dropped out of school.
“When I went to school, I couldn’t concentrate. My stomach was empty so my brain was empty too,” recalled the young man.
So, CBN’s Operation Blessing in the Philippines invested in the young entrepreneur. We gave him a bicycle taxi which provided a way to earn more money in less time.
David has returned to school, and now, he and his aunt have plenty to eat.
“With the fare from the bicycle taxi, I can buy food every day!" David explains. "There’s money left over for school fees and class projects. I am so happy that my aunt and I don’t have to worry anymore. Thank you! You changed my life."
