Barely Able to Feed a Family of Six

Central Java, Indonesia

51-year-old Sarni has been working several jobs to provide for her elderly parents and a niece and nephew who were abandoned by their parents.

“Before COVID hit, I worked part time doing laundry and as a cook,” she told The 700 Club. “Sometimes I felt so desperate and tired.” 

When the pandemic hit, Sarni lost most of her work and income. “Because of COVID, the food business where I worked had to shut down. And most people were also afraid to call me to wash their laundry.”

“I think my Aunt worried the most about not having enough food for my grandparents,” added Sarni’s 12-year-old niece Aurel. She has been part of the nearby after school program supported by CBN’s Orphan’s Promise. When we learned the family’s need we provided them emergency food packs on three separate occasions.  

“I was so grateful when they came and gave us the food packs. It was critical for us during the pandemic,” said Sarni. 

And when we learned that Sarni was skilled at preparing food, we gave her what she needed to start a business near her home.  

After only a few months she reports that the food business is growing and she now earns enough to provide for everyone in her home.  

“With my current income we now all have enough to eat properly!” she told us. “I thank our Lord Jesus for everything. And I also thank the people who support the ministry of Orphan’s Promise. God bless you all!”
