Ancient Praise Method Still Used to Honor God

THE VOICE OF GOD
Don grew up in church but rededicated his life to the Lord at the age of 41.  He started playing the shofar in 1995.  Don, now 62, served for many years as a group leader in church with his wife Sue and had been praying for direction in his ministry. Everything changed when Don met Paul Wilbur in 2005 at a conference where Paul was teaching a seminar about playing the shofar.  After the seminar, Don told Paul he played the shofar; he didn’t just blow it. Don retrieved his shofar in the car and proceeded to play for him. “Meeting Paul was God-ordained,” he says. Since then, Don has accompanied him both here and overseas in Asia, Europe and Latin and South America.  

In 2007, Don was attending a conference in Florida and prophetic words were spoken over him.  The prophet said, “I have a word from God: Whenever you blow, the cancer must go!” Miracles started happening!  Hearing in deaf people was restored, blind people were healed. A man with golf-ball sized lumps in his lungs was healed of cancer that night!  Since that word was spoken over him, the Lord has specifically gifted and called Don to sound the shofar over people who are battling illnesses.  Healing and deliverances have been manifested.  People have been healed by God from various diseases.

PLAYING THE SHOFAR
In addition to his international travels, Don also speaks in churches and leads anointed healing and deliverance services. Don owns a music store but leaves it to minister God’s grace, healing and compassion around the world.   He has blown the shofar at CBN’s Rosh Hashana events since 2008.

Don will demonstrate playing the shofar on the set. His DVD, Shofar! The Voice of God, highlights the lives of the kudu antelope whose spiraling horns are used to create the shofars that Don uses.  Don says the ram’s horn shofar has been linked all the way back to Abraham and to the Second Coming.  Ram’s horn are almost circular; the kudu have long spiraling horns approximately 20” in length.  The horns are hollowed out, then the tip is cut off and shaped with a dremmel tip.  The kudu horns are easier to play than ram’s horns.  

“I’ve been so blessed by the Lord with this calling,” says Don.  Shortly after all the miracles started happening, Don was overwhelmed; his phone had been ringing off the hook.  He was lying on the floor praying. Don said, “Who am I that you would choose me?” Don felt the Lord say, “Who is anyone else?” What Don has come to understand is that it’s easy for him to play the shofar because he was equipped by the Lord.  “We each have a calling.  God has called me and anointed me to do this,” says Don. “I try to stay low key about everything.”  God uses the shofar as a vessel to heal people.  “It’s God’s voice that comes out of the end of the shofar. I know it’s not me.  I can’t do this stuff.  I can only do what God has called me to do.  He does the rest,” says Don.
