"The Sing Off" Winners On Their Faithful Foundation
THE ROAD TO VICTORY
Adam Rupp founded Home Free during their college years in the early 2000s. They spent over a decade perfecting their live show, performing together for crowds in state and county fairs, on college campuses, in Fortune 500 companies, and in theaters all across the country.
In 2013, the country a cappella band was crowned Season 4 champions of NBC's The Sing-Off. The band says their victory was “ a satisfying culmination of nearly a decade of hard work and commitment to a vocal craft growing in popularity.” The band sang an arrangement of Hunter Hayes' "I Want Crazy," as their final competitive song, earning the group $100,000 and a recording contract. Their first album, Crazy Life, was released on February 18, 2014. Since then, they’ve released 9 albums including a cappella covers of popular pop and country hits, original music, and even four Christmas albums.
As Home Free continues to gain popularity, they are still touring the country with their signature, high-energy country/pop style. In January 2016 they embarked on their first tour outside North America with stops in Birmingham, UK, St. Andrews, Scotland, and London, UK (a planned stop in Dublin, Ireland was cancelled due to weather). In September 2016 they had their first concert in Central Europe in Pertisau, Austria.
They are currently on the Home Free Country Christmas tour. Austin says, “It’s a departure from our normal set, but it’s great because we love to have fun.” We’ve turned this career we love into something we can do for a long time.”
A FAITHFUL FOUNDATION
Most Home Free members grew up in church singing music so they are no strangers to the Gospel. In fact, the group’s very first show was a church talent show. Tim, the group’s bass, grew up in the Church of Christ, and both of Austin’s (the group’s tenor) parents were singers in church. Austin says church was "easily the biggest influence in my musical foundation.” Their fans seem to connect to the group’s Christian roots. Home Free’s fan base is primarily online, and their most successful music video to date is a country take on a classic hymn, “How Great Thou Art.” The video gained 5 million views in just 2 weeks.
