Rediscovering Masculinity In a Challenging World
MEN UNDER ATTACK
Lieutenant General (Ret.) William “Jerry” Boykin is concerned about the assault on men in America today. He explains, “It is causing families to disintegrate and leaving our homes, churches, and communities without male leadership.” His latest book, Man to Man, goes straight to the hearts of men to help them understand what their role is in the family, the church, and society in general. Boykin focuses on the five elements of manhood, as provider, instructor, defender, battle buddy, and chaplain. He wants men to understand that “God’s design for them has not changed. Only societies message to them has altered and it’s destroying them.” The objective of his book is to show men what they’re supposed to be according to the Bible. Exodus 5:3 states that “The Lord is a Warrior, the Lord is his name,” and men are made in the image of God. Men are warriors because that is how God made them. Yet, men are made to feel bad for being who God called them to be. Societies Toxic masculinity is ruining true masculinity. Boykin wants to combat this by helping men find their God-given calling.
Boykin says the root of the erosion of the role of man began in 1958 when the Communist Party USA wrote the book, The Naked Communist. In the book, they explain how to turn America into a Marxist society focused on taking down men. They targeted men by encouraging porn addiction, homosexuality, and same-sex marriage—anything to destroy the role of man in the family unit and in the American culture. He explains, “The most significant factor in proliferating this myth of toxic masculinity is the fact that our society has perpetuated a safe space and participation trophy atmosphere. We have raised a generation now who see the world through their feelings rather than through historic fact.” Boykin is one of the very few people willing to fight these notions in today’s politically correct atmosphere.
When asked who set a Godly example of godly manhood for him, he points to his father, his wife Ashley, and his battle buddy Stu Weber. Boykin wants to help future generations of both men and women by encouraging men to do their part for the family and the church by being who God has called them to be.
Boykin will be speaking at the Promise Keepers 2020 conference at the AT&T Stadium (home of the Dallas Cowboys) in Arlington, Texas on July 31-August 1.
