Being Your Own Boss

CBN.com - Nina Owens loves being her own boss. She runs an interior design business near Houston, Texas.

“I've always loved the creative process,” Nina says. “And I have the most amazing clients who have become true friends in the process.”

Back in 2001, Nina wasn’t sure the business could support her family. That was the year she went through a divorce and became a single mother.

“There’s a lot of fear,” she says. “You're afraid that … ‘how am I going to do this? How am I going to be a single mom and raise two boys and do it all?’ I worried that I don't have a 9 to 5, steady job… and ‘what if there aren’t always clients?’”

Still, Nina was determined to trust God and tithe on everything she earned.

“I remember the first time I had heard about that,” Nina recalls, “about tithing where the Lord just says, ‘Go ahead, just try me and see if I don't pour you out a blessing.’

“I just trusted the Lord. I said, I'm just going to step out on faith, I know that you've given me gifts and I know that people like what I do and You will just bring jobs to the table. And I never had to worry about it. New jobs just kept coming in and more than I could even handle.”

Nina’s interior design business flourished and enabled her to give her children everything they needed and more.

“I was able to give them a great life and buy a beautiful home for us and still have money to do fun things and money to go and take them on trips,” Nina says. “I knew where my blessings were coming from and that they were a result of giving.”

In 2007, Nina married Scott Owens. Today, Nina and Scott are members of CBN’s Chairman’s Circle.

“My husband and I love Pat,” Nina says. “I just love everything that they do through Operation Blessing and I just thought that this is something I have to be part of.”

“Watch The 700 Club, watch what they do,” Scott encourages. “You can see the benefits of your contribution on action on a daily basis.”

“Over the last couple of years, we’ve even been led to increase our giving and give even more,” Nina says. “Your blessings come through that and your joy, just pure joy being able to do something for someone else.”
