Hope for More Than Crackers

CBN.com —Wendy, 9, took tiny bites of her cracker. She was trying to make it last because it would be her only meal that day.     

We didn´t have money to buy food, and we only ate crackers.  My stomach ached a lot,” said Wendy.

Her older sister Yari, 11, tried to be brave for both of them. 

“I told my mom not to worry and not to cry,” said Yari.  “I said ‘we will make some money soon.’” 

But Wendy and Yari’s mother MIrna had already lost hope. She still cries when she thinks about those terrible days.    

“I knew my children were hungry,” said Mirna. “They always asked for more, but I didn’t have anything to give them.”  
 
A hurricane had swept through their town in Mexico destroying their home and the family’s small ice cream cart, their only way to make a living. 

“We barely had the time to save ourselves,” said Angel, the girl’s father. “I searched the flood waters for my cart but I couldn´t find it.  I only found a few items from the business in the river.”

With the few containers they found, Angel tried to make home-made ice cream, but without the cart to keep it cold and move it around, it was hard to sell.  So Angel bought a used cart that had been badly damaged in the storm.

“The cart was in bad shape.  I had no money to fix it and we didn’t have enough to eat.  I prayed for God to help us!” said Angel.
  
Operation Blessing did help! First we gave him new parts, paint and the tools needed to fix up the damaged cart.  Soon it looked brand new!   

Then we bought Angel a large amount of sugar, cream and other ingredients, along with new containers and other small appliances that they’d lost in the flood. 

“Wow!” declared Angel.  “I´ve never imagined how much help I was going to receive from Operation Blessing. My profits are double from what I made before the hurricane.  Now i can feed my family, we eat much better, we are prospering!”
 
And the part about “being able to feed my family,” makes Emily especially glad.
