Prophetic Voices on the Election of Barack Obama

I think it is wise to take some time to consider what some prophetic voices in the Church are saying regarding the election of Barack Obama to the presidency of the United States. I have been somewhat amazed by some of the feedback we have received from Andy Freeman's guest blog entry on ChurchWatch to his call to pray for President-Elect Obama. Some of the feedback has been very Christ like and full of grace. Some of it has been a cry of fear for the future. And some of it, frankly, has been rather bitter and unloving.

You can read Andy's article and the feedback here.

In light of the comments we have received, both positive and negative, I believe it's prudent to listen to what the prophets are saying to the Church. The Bible makes it clear that the Lord has given prophets to the people of God to speak on His behalf and it is wise to consider their words:

Believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper. (2 Chron. 20:20, NKJV)

I want to give you a list of some of the leading prophetic voices and a snippet of what they are saying about the election for your consideration. I will also give you a link to their remarks in text or video form for you to hear their full message. We can rejoice, knowing that God is on the throne and that the heart of the king is in the hand of the Lord. God is sovereign and His plan will be accomplished, regardless of who is seated in the Oval Office.

I encourage you to read through and watch these messages. Then I encourage you to do what the Bible tells us to do, and that is to pray for our President-Elect -- and for all who are in authority:

Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. (1 Tim. 2:2-4, NLT).

From Kim Clement:

"This is not bad. This is not something that is going to destroy a nation. I understand many of the questions that some people have asked about the belief system that he (Barack Obama) has. And you prefer John McCain with his beliefs. But let me say this to you, God is God. And He's on the throne, and He will do whatever He wants. And if you change your mind about that, you've already lost. It doesn't matter whether there is a McCain in power or an Obama. You've lost already, because once you take your eyes off that great sovereign God and say 'It's all going to go to hell right now,' you've got yourself a problem because you're de-throning Him in your mind and saying 'I don't think that you can work within this system.' ... God has some surprises for you, America."

Kim then quotes from a prophetic word he gave on June 17, 2008:

"A president that I will bring into the White House, and they will say 'He is ungodly.' They will say, 'He does not know God.' Even as Jesus disguised Himself at the great feast, so I have disguised this man's heart. When he comes to the White House, not only shall he be mine, but he shall pray as a man that has never prayed in the White House. ... Fear not, for he shall sit in that seat in the White House and suddenly my Spirit will come on him and baptize him with fire and with the anointing, says the Spirit of the Lord."

From Dutch Sheets:

Dutch Sheets had a very different take on the election of Barack Obama:

"Was what happened Tuesday God's will?  I am quite confident it was not.  America was offered a very clear choice between moving further toward protecting the unborn or further away; between a Supreme Court that would move toward honoring God, life and morality or away from it.  The stakes couldn't have been higher nor the cost greater. As a nation we put on blinders concerning Barak Obama's background, associations, beliefs and practices, and set these causes back years, possibly decades.  And in doing so we took another step away from God and His plans for America, and another step toward judgment."

"In warning of judgment, I am not suggesting that God is going to intentionally and directly hurt people.  Much judgment is simply the absence of God's protection and provision, caused by a rejection of His laws and ways.  We have been experiencing some forms of judgment in America for years, but God in His incredible patience and mercy has kept us from the level we've deserved.  I believe this will change to a degree and judgment will now increase..."

From J. Lee Grady:

"Many African-American Christians saw Barack Obama’s candidacy as a chance to right the racial wrongs of the past. They felt his victory on Nov. 4 was a direct fulfillment of the dream Martin Luther King Jr. proclaimed 45 years ago. And they believe that his commitment to help the poor is an embodiment of Christian principles of justice."

"Many white evangelicals, on the other hand, couldn’t embrace Obama because of their commitment to a pro-life agenda. They feared that Obama would appoint pro-abortion justices to the Supreme Court and actively push for gay marriage. They also worried that Obama’s ties to a liberal Democratic agenda might invite terrorism or encourage socialist economic policies."

"What do we do now? Do black Christians gloat while white conservatives lick their wounds? Do we just keep our distance? Do we keep Sunday morning segregated?"

"The Bible is clear that God does not encourage sulking or segregation. He calls those who are offended to go to their brothers and make things right. He expects us to work out our differences with sensitivity and mutual understanding. He has given us “the ministry of reconciliation” (2 Cor. 5:18, NASB)."

"...Reconciliation is intentional. We don’t wait for the offended party to come to us—we go to them."

From Cindy Jacobs:

"The Holy Spirit spoke to me ... and He said, 'Cindy, you're a general. Don't let the prayer movement rupture over this election. ... I thought back to when we were fighting for pro-life issues, as we have been now. And God is not a Democrat or a Republican. I'm very concerned about the Supreme Court, and people think 'Oh, we've lost the Courts.' No, we haven't lost the Courts. We haven't lost anything. Because the heart of the king is in the hand of the Lord. ... And God said to me, 'Remember what happened when the Clinton's went in. And I'm not speaking negatively about the Clinton's. I'm speaking ideologically, we are pro-marriage, one man and one woman. We are pro-life. We don't want babies to be aborted. ... So God said to me, 'Speak to the people of God and say to them, it is not over.'"

"...The Lord showed me that there is a demonic oppression of depression trying to come against people in panic and fear. Satan wants to panic the troops. Satan wants to say to you, 'It's not gonna work. It's over. You can't do anything. We've lost the nation.' I just see some people in panic, panic, panic. I just want to say, 'Stop!' Don't do it. We can still pull this out."
