The 700 Club's Terry Meeuwsen Receives Excellence in Communication Award

Women in Christian Media (WCM) has announced that Terry Meeuwsen of The 700 Club will be the 2010 recipient of the Excellence in Communication Award to be presented at their National Conference at the Radisson Hotel at Opryland in Nashville on February 26th, in conjunction with the National Religious Broadcasters conference that weekend.

Women in Christian Media recognizes outstanding achievements in the communications field by conferring annual 'Excellence in Communication' awards of merit for National Achievement in Christian Media. "The presentations of these awards are intended to be an incentive for the continued pursuit of excellence for those working in television, radio, film, publishing and Internet industries. The award is meant to focus public attention on outstanding Christian cultural, educational, technological, entertainment, news and informational achievements in media.

Terry Meeuwsen"Terry Meeuwsen brings a diverse portfolio to the set of The 700 Club. Her background as a singer with the New Christy Minstrels, broadcaster, Miss America and working mother makes her equally adept at either interviewing a Hollywood celebrity or working with kids on The Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN)," said Suellen Roberts, founder and president of Women in Christian Media.

Terry has been a familiar face on The 700 Club since the early 1980s, appearing on the program many times as a guest co-host. In June of 1993 she became a permanent co-host, joining Pat Robertson on the program, which is broadcast daily from the CBN studios in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

She is also the Director of CBN's project Orphans Promise.

"Terry Meeuwsen is highly recognized for her talent and ability to handle with excellence all of the projects she assigned as television co-host," Roberts explains. "Her life exhibits one of true Christian character. She is the 'real deal.'"

About Women in Christian Media

Women in Christian Media Founder and President, Suellen Roberts says she hopes the event will connect and refresh women in Christian communications. It was just nine years ago when Roberts began to test the waters for an industry group geared toward women. The idea sparked immediate enthusiasm. Within two months, Roberts secured a leadership team and unveiled WCM in 2001.

"We are celebrating significant growth in its first nine years," she said. "The schedule of events throughout the country will stick closely to WCM's mission to encourage, connect and mobilize women working in all forms of Christian media ministry."

WCM was birthed out of Roberts' desire to connect women in purpose and vision. She believes that providing a platform for women in Christian media will yield powerful results. "Mobilizing women in Christian media is essential to advancing the gospel in these times," said Roberts.

Roberts says she is encouraged by the groups' rapid progress. "I have organized many women's groups over the years, but this one is different," said Roberts. "There is an enthusiasm among these women like I've never seen. That is why we've come so far, so fast," she added.

Based on response from those who have attended past WCM events, the group is already making an impact through enriching the lives of those involved personally and professionally. When asked about the future of WCM, Roberts anticipates a remarkable outcome. "I expect that great fruitfulness will come out of all this, for women in the industry and for female media consumers."

Previous recipients of the WCM Excellence in Communication Award are Anne Graham Lotz, founder of Angel Ministries; Kay Arthur of Precept Ministries International; Janet Parshall of Janet Parshall's America; Joni Eareckson Tada of Joni and Friends; Shirley Rose of Aspiring Women TLN; and Vonette Bright of Women Today, Campus Crusade.

The Women in Christian Media Excellence in Communications Award will be presented to Terry Meeuwsen at the conference, which is open to the public and includes a fellowship dinner on Thursday evening and then workshops and the Presidential Luncheon Friday culminating with an Awards Gala Dinner on Friday evening.
