White House Easter Eggs Go Green
Spring is in the air! One big annual event at the White House that goes back to the days of James Madison (read: 1814) is the Easter Egg Roll. Each year, the South Lawn is opened up to thousands and thousands of children and their parents.
Each child that participates gets a souvenir egg with the logo for that year. This year, the theme is "Ready, Set, Go!" The theme builds off the First Lady's "Let's Move" campaign to fight childhood obesity.
This year's eggs come in purple, pink, green and yellow. But they're all "green." a.k.a. environmentally friendly. All of the eggs were crafted in the US from Forst Stewardship Council-certified hardwood and the packaging was designed to minimize waste.
The 2010 Easter Egg Roll will take place Monday, April 5.
