Snow Storm Affects Even the President's Commute

After a making it past several cars that had either skidded off the road or become stuck in the snow, traffic opened up a bit. In the process of stopping, going and weaving, however, the motorcade was separated.

You may have heard about the horrible evening commute in Washington, D.C., last night. I'm one of the lucky ones! I took the Metro home and was only slightly delayed. But I've read horror stories this morning about people being stranded in their cars for up to 13 hours! Some people didn't get home from work until 5:30 a.m.! I'm guessing a lot of people will not be going into work today.

Commuters in D.C. are used to tough commutes. There's always traffic. Occasionally, there's a Presidential motorcade. Occasionally, there's snow. Last evening, all three! Perfect storm.

Even the President was affected by the treacherous commute. He had to travel back to the White House from Andrews Air Force base, after his trip to Wisconsin. Usually, he does this by helicopter. But, because of the snow, he had to go by motorcade.

The motorcade took just over an hour to get back to the White House. The drive is usually about 25 minutes. Reporters traveling in the motorcade reported seeing several cars that had skidded off the road or became stuck in the snow.

I'm told the drive included a lot of stopping, going and weaving.
