Preview of Obama's Libya Speech

This evening President Obama will give a very important speech.  The audience? The American people. And they're skeptical. White House aides didn't want to go into details about what President Obama will say in the speech, but did say he will lay out the rationale for getting involved in Libya.

"We don't want to get very hung up on this question of precedent," Deputy National Security Advisor Denis McDonough said. "Obviously there are certain aspirations that are being voiced by each of these movements, but there's no question that each of them is unique," McDonough said.

So, obviously the White House doesn't want people to read into what's happening in Libya and draw conclusions about what's happening in Syria, for example.

McDonough said the White House judges each situation differently, based on what's best for the United States. He said as of right now, there are no plans for the US to get involved, militarily, in Syria.

White House aides wouldn't say if the President will be discussing a particular timeline and/or exit strategy this evening. They point to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who will be discussing that during a meeting in London, tomorrow.
