Security Team Shuffle

Today the President will make a pretty significant announcement that he is shuffling his national security team.

Obama will announce that CIA Director Leon Panetta will shift over to the Pentagon to replace Robert Gates as Defense Secretary. Gen. David Petraeus, the commander of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, will move to the CIA to replace Panetta, in the fall.

Petraeus will still oversee the beginning of the draw down of American troops in Afghanistan. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. John Allen, currently deputy commander of U.S. CentCom, is expected to take Petraeus' spot.

Oh, and diplomat Ryan Crocker, who you may remember from his high profile role in Iraq, will step in as ambassador in Afghanistan.

This is not a surprise. Defense Secretary Robert Gates has said for a long time that he wouldn't serve a second term with the President. Obama kept Gates on from President Bush's national security team.
