Unspeakable Horror
Every few months, a major publication will run a short story about the atrocities going on the the Democratic Republic of Congo, but really no one seems to be talking about it in the mainstream press.
There are no recent movies out there to raise awareness. There are no loud protests at embassies or on the mall in Washington, D.C. And, if you look up "save Congo" on Google, up pops a whole list of pages devoted to saving the life of a dog named "Congo."
The violence occuring right now is beyond description. Did you know that the largest U.N. peacekeeping force in the world is there at the moment? They are completely unable to stop the violent rape of thousands of men, women and children.
The brutality there is worse than anything that even Hollywood could dream up.
For the first time in a long time, this journalist is speechless.
All I can do is recommend you read the article "Atrocities Beyond Words" in last week's Economist magazine.
You will never be the same after reading it.
If you are truly brave, read this story.
(I warn you, the article is quite graphic.)
