Back From the Brink of Death
Mrs. Zhu was 43 when she heard that she was finally pregnant. No-one was more excited than her husband.
He explains, “I always wanted to be a father. The first thing I did when I got home from work every day was listen to the baby in my wife's tummy. I’d say, ‘Honey, Daddy can't wait to meet you.’”
But the couple worried that Mrs. Zhu’s age might complicate things. Then MengJie was born, and their fears were swept away.
“She was so beautiful,” recounts Mrs. Zhu. “She came to us like a little angel.”
Her husband adds, “I kissed MengJie’s face and said, ‘Baby, thank you for coming into my life. Thank you for making me a father.’”
But within days, the doctor said MengJie had two holes in her heart.
“It felt like a death sentence,” Mr. Zhu confesses. “I couldn’t accept that my daughter would die before me.”
MengJie’s immune system was compromised, so she got pneumonia a lot and ended up at the hospital for two weeks at a time. Doctors suggested surgery as soon as possible.
“I fell silent because I didn’t have the money for an operation,” Mr. Zhu recalls. “I felt like a terrible father.”
Things got even worse when Covid-19 hit China.
“All the construction sites were shut down,” says Mr. Zhu. “I lost my job overnight. I had no income.”
They ate only what they could grow and started losing hope that their daughter would ever improve.
“At the same time, Meng Jie got weaker and thinner by the day. We dared not take her out because we didn’t want our daughter to get novel coronavirus,” Mr. Zhu explains.
Mrs. Zhu adds, “She stayed in bed every day and didn’t have any strength. She refused to walk or exercise. It was like she wasn’t even a child. She was a doll. I was afraid that she would die of a heart attack.”
Then a doctor introduced the couple to CBN, and we made it possible for MengJie to get heart surgery.
“MengJie is like a different person,” Mr. Zhu exclaims. “She loves to dance and is always running around. This is what I always hoped for, to be a happy father. Thank you for bringing my daughter back from the brink of death. Thank you for giving her a second chance at life.”
“I could hardly believe the love of this group of strangers. Why would CBN do all this?” asks Mrs. Zhu. She concludes, “They told me it was because of God and that He died for us. I began to understand that God’s love is selfless. I thank God, I accept God. And I am very grateful to CBN.”
