It is curious that with all our time-saving and labor-saving devices (things our ancestors might have yearned for), we still seem incredibly rushed, hassled, often perceiving life as a struggle with no end in sight. No wonder peace sounds so attractive to us.

Turn on the nightly news and you'll notice that the politicians of the world haven't done well at bringing peace. Nor is this likely to happen. We can't wait on the governments to bring peace. Anyway, peace doesn't just mean the absence of war. It means harmony, within individuals and between people. This kind of peace can be in the midst of our own hectic, stress-filled lives.

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, whose thoughts are fixed on you!

"There is no peace for the wicked," says the LORD .

Galatians 5:22-23

The first Christians knew that one great enemy of peace is worry. We worry because we lack faith that God cares for us. So we often deprive ourselves of peace because of our lack of faith in God's continuous care. Paul assured the Christians that God offered them something greater than a life of worry:

Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Keep putting into practice all you learned from me and heard from me and saw me doing, and the God of peace will be with you.

Philippians 4:7

Let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are all called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
