I was holding the book in my hand about astral projection. A teenage space cadet. I blinked my eyes, and the next thing you know, I began to go through the roof and was literally leaving the earth. What he saw . . . . I was just fascinated at first, and then fear overcame me. . . . . and how he returned. It seemed as if something was pulling me into a pit of darkness. Plus, former host Sheila Walsh returns home, on today’s 700 Club. Welcome to this edition of The 700 Club. It looks like somebody is trying to destroy this country. For some reason, there are people in Washington who don’t understand we’re broke. They don’t understand that for every dollar you spend, and you have to borrow 40 cents of it. There’s something the matter. They somehow don’t understand that we have 60-some trillion dollars in unfunded liabilities, plus another 14.5 trillion. Somehow they don’t understand it, and so they argue back and forth. And the latest proposal from Senator Reid is that, “Well, we’ll count the end of the war as our budget discussion. That’s the money we’re going to save.” And the rating agency says, “No way. It ain’t going to happen.” And the president just says, “Well, we’ve got to raise more taxes to support my wasteful spending.” And House Speaker Boehner says, “No way.” So what’s going to happen? Well, there’s a gridlock. It doesn’t look good for the greatest nation on earth. But the two sides have taken their cases to the public, and the public doesn’t seem to understand what’s going on, and, well, we’ll see. Well, it is very confusing. The president believes some taxes should go up. And at the same time, the speaker says Washington has to focus on cutting spending. Jennifer Wishon has the story from Washington. In a national primetime showdown, President Barack Obama and Speaker John Boehner stuck to their guns. Just one week before the government is scheduled to hit its debt limit, the president announced the stalemate, or battle, over deep spending cuts versus tax increases, continues. We can't allow the American people to become collateral damage to Washington's political warfare. Speaker Boehner accused the president of creating a crisis atmosphere. The sad truth is that the president wanted a blank check six months ago, and he wants a blank check today. This is just not going to happen. Both men took their cases directly to the American people, Mr. Obama repeatedly calling his plan to cut spending and raise taxes balanced, which some analysts called an attempt to win over independents. The president criticized Republicans for holding the line against new taxes. Again, they will refuse to ask the wealthiest Americans to give up their tax cuts, or deductions. Again, they will demand harsh cuts to programs like Medicare. And once again, the economy will be held captive unless they get their way. And he painted a dismal future if America defaults on its debts. Interest rates would skyrocket on credit cards, on mortgages, and on car loans, which amounts to a huge tax hike on the American people. The president’s address and speaker’s rebuttal comes a day after the House and Senate appeared to reach some common ground. Both houses introduced new plans to raise the debt ceiling, with similar spending cuts and no tax increases. Republicans say Washington is simply spending too much. The solution to this crisis is not complicated. If you’re spending more money than you’re taking in, you need to spend less of it. There’s no symptom of big government more menacing than our debt. Break its grip, and we begin to liberate our economy and our future. A key difference is Democrats want to raise the debt ceiling enough to get through the presidential election. Republicans want to raise it for just six months. (Washington): So what happens if Congress and the White House can’t reach an agreement by August 2nd? The Treasury Department is working on contingency plans. Some options: selling off federal assets and deciding which bills to pay and which ones to delay. Some analysts believe the Treasury can come up with enough cash to pay America’s bills through at least September. Jennifer Wishon, CBN News, Washington. The task of setting a debt limit rests with Congress, not the president. And if Congress passes an extension, which they’re going to pass, the president vetoes that at his peril. The Congress is going to say, “Okay, here’s the deal. We’re going to extend the debt limit, but we’re only going to do it for six or seven months. We’re not going to push it all the way through the next election. That’s politics. Obama doesn’t want this to come up and hit him in the face, because he’s got to make some difficult decisions, and he doesn’t want to do it prior to an election. That’s the deal. So they’re holding their feet in, and then he’s arguing. And so the people in Washington are playing politics. The president is playing politics by trying to push this debt limit extension all the way past the next election. Folks, we’ve got about a year and a half before our entire credit standing is going to be in peril. And I think it’s going to be in peril, because these guys cannot come together. It’s just amazing. They’re putting partisan politics ahead of the needs of the nation. And each one is catering to its own constituency. But you’d better do some serious praying. Lee Webb has the rest of our top stories from the CBN Newsroom. Lee. Well, Pat, it’s not just Washington that’s worried about debt. So are many Americans. A new Associated Press poll shows that one in five adults worries about debt most or all of the time. Debt-related stress is said to be up 17 percent from last November. More than 40 million Americans are seriously concerned about their debt, and the stress levels are the highest among households that have lost jobs, people with family incomes below 20,000 dollars, single parents, and adults without high school diplomas. Even people in higher income brackets, though, are feeling the pain. Households earning more than 75,000 dollars had the largest increase in debt-related stress since November. Pat. The reason we’re not having a recovery from this recession we’ve been in is because of bad management in Washington. So grin and bear it. Maybe something can be done before it’s too late. Lee. Pat, opponents of New York's gay marriage law sued to have the measure overturned. The lawsuit was filed in state court Monday. It claims the New York Senate violated the state’s open meetings law when it approved the bill and that lawmakers who opposed the measure were prevented from speaking out against it. Sunday was the first day the law went into effect, and thousands took to the streets to protest the measure. I spoke to Maggie Gallagher of the National Organization for Marriage. She believes gay marriage can be stopped. We reversed gay marriage in California. We reversed it in Maine. New Hampshire is going to vote to reverse gay marriage in January, I would predict. We have won amazing victories. The trouble is that the press doesn’t report them, so people get the wrong message about how possible it is to reverse same sex marriage. Opponents of the bill say Governor Andrew Cuomo redefined marriage and didn’t give the voters a say. Congressman Allen West of Florida is examining the Muslim Brotherhood’s influence in the U.S. Many analysts consider the Brotherhood the granddaddy of Islamic extremist groups. It’s linked to numerous terrorist organizations. Representative West says it’s important to learn just how much influence the Brotherhood has here in the U.S. This is about the protection of each and every American citizen, whoever resides within our borders. It is the initial work product of a 14-month research by the non-profit Citizens for National Security, an all volunteer group that traced the infiltration of the Muslim Brotherhood into America since it came here in 1962. Representative West says the U.S. must stay on the offensive in order to defeat radical Islam. Archaeologists in Jerusalem have discovered a rare gold bell believed to be part of a priestly garment during the time of Jesus. Julie Stahl has that story now from Jerusalem. That’s the sound of a 2,000-year-old tiny gold bell. And the man was walking with that bell on his coat, everyone would hear when he was coming. It’s a small noise. It's not a big noise, just to give some respect to this man. Archaeologists uncovered the bell while excavating an ancient drainage channel. It begins at the pool of Siloam and continues underground to an area near the Western Wall called “Robinson's Arch.” That's where Jewish worshippers would have entered the Temple Mount in the time of Jesus. And this bell we found under the main street of Jerusalem from the Second Temple period. The bell has a tiny loop at the top. It would have been attached to the garment of a wealthy person. The Bible describes the robe of Aaron, the high priest, saying, “Upon its hem, you shall make pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet, all around its hem; and bells of gold between them all around.” Head archaeologist Eli Shukron says there is no way to know for sure if the bell came from a priestly garment. It could be anyone, but I think, with a high position in Jerusalem from the Second Temple period. He believes the bell fell off the man's garment and into the drainage channel. After 2,000 years, we are working very hard in the tunnels of Jerusalem. And after 2,000 years we found that bell in the tunnel. Archaeologists hope to open the channel tunnel to the public later this summer. Shukron says discoveries like the little golden bell shed light on the nature of Jerusalem in Second Temple times. Julie Stahl, CBN News, Jerusalem. Fascinating. In the last six months, Americans have sent one trillion, that’s trillion, text messages. That's why some schools across the country say cursive writing is obsolete, but some schools argue there is no substitute for a good old-fashioned John Hancock. Here is Mark Martin. Fifty-six delegates to the Continental Congress signed the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776. The most recognizable signature: John Hancock. To this day, he is remembered for his large and stylish signature. Fast forward some 230 years later to the days of e-mails, texts, and tweets. That’s why some schools like Stober Elementary School near Denver, Colorado, have stopped teaching cursive. A school administrator in Augusta, Georgia, also tried to remove cursive from her curriculum, but the school board refused. They're texting, and they are playing games. They are using the technology that we have. Now 41 states have adopted new standards that replace cursive with keyboarding, and that certainly seems to be okay with some kids. Texting is my life. Texting is more fun. I just like watching my fingers press on all the keys. But some schools, like this private Christian school in Virginia, say there's no substitute for teaching cursive. Nowadays, if you want to fill out really any legal document, you have to know how to sign your name in cursive. Plus, like I said, those fine motor skills really need to be developed. Even these second graders can tell you why they think writing in cursive is still important. It teaches you how to get more muscles in your hand. I think it increases your writing skills, but really hard. Because it's fun. Because you get to do different symbols than normal. So is teaching cursive still relevant? That's a question every parent needs to think about. Otherwise, America could be raising up a generation of no signatures. Mark Martin, CBN News. Nicely done, Mark. All right, Pat, I think I know how you feel about it, so make the case. Why should we teach cursive in school? Can you imagine what would happen if suddenly we had a power blackout, and all those tweets and twitters and e-mails didn’t work? How would we communicate? With grunts or with tom-toms? Writing is an extraordinary ability that goes way back to the Papyrus days in early Egypt and Babylon. And for heaven’s sakes, to say we don’t need that is insane. The educators do some stupid things, and this is one more of them. If they try to cut out handwriting, they call it cursive, but you’ve got to write with your hand. And it’s just insane to even think about stopping that. Well, there actually have been some studies that have been done to help children who have been remedial on things. And it’s involved using your hand and the activity between the brain and the hand to kind of bring all of that together. I’m a very poor amateur handwriting analyst. I can tell a few things from looking at people’s handwriting. You can tell what goes on in a person’s psyche by looking at the way they write. And once you take that away, and they start texting, all that personality has gone out of it. People, actually, they can have their hands cut off, and they can write with their toes, and they still have those same characteristics. Isn’t that fascinating? It’s fascinating. Someday I’ll go in and tell you what’s in your handwriting. Oh, that’s scary. Okay. Maybe. Maybe not. Well, up next, meet a young man on a wilderness trail who came face to face with a grizzly bear. I’m six-foot-six, and the bear was so much taller than me when it stood up. But I think they are fascinating animals, and I don’t regret anything about that experience. Learn what to do if a grizzly approaches you, after this. And then later on, former 700 Club co-host Sheila Walsh joins us. It talks about the fierceness. David was said to be as fierce as a bear robbed of her cubs. Last weekend a mother grizzly bear charged into a group of seven teenagers in the Alaskan wilderness, seriously injuring two teens and wounding two others. That attack came after a grizzly killed a hiker in Yellowstone National Park this summer. Paul Strand reports such incidents have reignited the debate about these huge beasts. What happened after a mama grizzly mauled a Yellowstone tourist this summer highlights an evolving attitude. Authorities do not automatically kill the bear and her cubs as was past practice. It seems Americans more and more see these massive mammals as a wonder to treasure, not a danger to exiled to the wilderness. They've got to be the most fascinating creature God ever made. This attitude adjustment is personified in Rolin Cheek. In his younger years the Montana outdoorsman wanted nothing more than to shoot a grizzly and turn it into a rug. But over the years, he observed the bears. Saw their intelligence and watched them play. They rocket down snow fields on their bellies for the sheer exuberance of it. It's so changed him that when he finally had a grizzly in his gun sights: I found out that the animal itself had seized my heart so much that I found I'd just rather watch the bear than to shoot it. You'd think Steve German might have nothing but fear after a grizzly encounter on a wilderness trail. I'm 6-foot-6 and the bear was so much taller than me when it stood up to encounter me. You really are understanding for the first time how massive they are, just how muscular, how beefy. But instead of fear and loathing . . . . I think they are fascinating animals, and I don't regret anything about that experience. That's a much more positive attitude than a crowd displayed way back in 1966 in this Glacier parking lot. (Glacier National Park): A ranger showed up to see a female employee trying to shoo a crowd away that had completely surrounded a grizzly bear. They had this bear cornered, and it wound up the bear was growing angry. The bear was starting to act agitated, putting it ears back, stamping his foot. Finally the ranger had only one choice that he could make. He took out a rifle. He shot the bear. He went off to make a call to get the carcass removed. When he came back, people were swarming all over the dead bear's body, cutting off claws, taking its teeth. Another crowd back then in the Many Glacier region actually chased and stoned a bear for nearly half-a-mile. They started near this horse corral, pummeled him all through a nearby parking lot, ran after him down a couple of nearby slopes, past a caretaker’s cabin, and across a road up nearby Altyn Peak, stoning him all the way. It was a time when bears were seen almost as vermin, killed and buried without thought. The common practice was shoot, shovel and shut up. Now, they are a major attraction used to lure tourists. With grizzly sculptures and signs going up all over this Montana region. They show up on T-shirts. Bear spray could be a major reason for this warming up. This powerful spray, sort of like Mace on steroids, has turned out to be so fool-proof in turning back charging bears, it's killed much of the fear factor. And Glacier Ranger and author Michael Ober, says there's also a respect factor. You're in their backyard, and you're just a temporary guest and visitor going through their living room; and that's the attitude to have. Ober's impressed by how much grizzlies don't want to attack humans. They just want to not have much to do with you. They don't like you; they don't like your smell, and avoidance is a part of their everyday lifestyle. Retired ranger Jack Potter says bear spray and a few safety tips, like not traveling alone in bear country, and making noises like clapping or shouting can help keep you alive. The smaller tinkling bear bells aren't very effective. The joke is that they're dinner bells. Cheeks’ written 13 books, and his photo-filled Learning to Talk Bear, explores the social etiquette grizzlies practice. Like they show respect by not looking directly at each other. One day Cheek and his wife noticed a bear deliberately ignoring them. What he was trying to do is he was practicing social etiquette among bears, “I don't see you.” Authorities like bear biologist Charles Jonkel talk about: Common courtesies that the bears show each other that they transfer to us readily; because to them, as far as Jonkel is concerned, to the bears we are a kind of super-bear. Developing these courtesies between man and grizzly could keep both off the endangered species list. Cheek believes humans need to courteously reconsider how much they're bulldozing their way deeper and deeper into the wild land grizzlies once ruled. If we keep changing their primary feeding grounds to shopping malls and parking lots, there's no way they're going to make it into the next century. And since authorities might still sometimes be forced to kill an angered animal, humans who might rile up these mighty beasts bear a serious responsibility. Your actions could determine what happens to these individual bears. And when you're talking about 300 bears say, in the greater Glacier area, every bear's important. Paul Strand, CBN News, reporting from bear country in Montana. Well, I think if I were you I'd stay away from them regardless of their etiquette. All right. Be a wise word today. Warning, stay away! Well, up next, a teen gets more than he bargained for playing with the occult. Some people think that Uncle Sam is getting too old and tired. They want to change America and the values that made this country great. They don't mind that almost half the population doesn't pay a dime in income taxes to Uncle Sam yet still feel entitled to all these wonderful government programs. And they hope you won't notice some big changes coming, that Uncle Sam won't be able to afford a military or that the U.S. dollar won't be the world's currency. But there are some things that they don't want to change, things like increasing regulations, special interest group influence, spending much more than they earn, and greater entitlements. Right now Uncle Sam is losing $3.9 billion a day. It's time to stand up before it's too late, America. We're still the land of the free and the home of the brave. Well, on The 700 Club, we love to bring you stories of modern-day miracles. Today we take you back to 1987 when a man named Josh Calhoun was 16 years old. John was a troubled teenager with a severe case of athlete's foot. He went to sleep one night, and by the time he woke up, John had received a double miracle. I would lay in bed at night and look at my hand and asked the question “where did I come from?” I would question it so deeply. But I didn't have the answer. No one was there to tell me. I desperately was searching. John Calhoun came from a broken home. Even at 16, he wanted more out of life. He tried drugs and alcohol, even the occult. I was holding the book in my hand about astral projection, wasn’t really believing in it. Suddenly, I blinked my eyes, and the next thing you know, I began to go through the roof and over the top of the house, and was literally leaving the Earth. And I remember going into outer blackness, darkness, like I was being catapulted backwards at a great rate of speed. I went numb and I was just fascinated at first, and then fear overcame me. It was fear you could taste, fear you could touch. And I screamed out for help. It seemed as if something was pulling me into a pit of darkness. Then I heard a voice say, “Jesus,” and my mother had seen this taking place. She said my eyes were rolled back in my head, and she didn't know what to do. She grabbed a hold of me. She slapped me on the face. His encounter with the supernatural frightened him. It made John want to understand was there more to this life? Were Heaven and Hell real? John had a paper route. While folding papers early one morning, he came across The 700 Club. Pat began to talk about you can be saved by just accepting what Jesus did on the cross, not by good works or being religious. I was amazed to know that you didn't have to earn God's love. That just blew my mind that you could just ask Jesus to come into your heart, and that's all He needed from me. And so then I asked Him into my heart that day. God's Holy Spirit came into the room and filled that void up that was on the inside of me; and a peace that passes all understanding came into my heart, and I knew that I was saved. Later in the program, Pat Robertson prayed for healing and had a word of knowledge that got John's attention. And Pat said, “Someone has an ongoing problem with your feet. It is very painful.” And I remember he said, “It’s like there are scabs on your feet, and they're bleeding, and they're very painful. And God is healing you right now.” For years the teen had been battling a problem with his feet. No medicine seemed to help. I had a chronic foot problem that you could say was athlete's feet, and it wasn't just in one spot or two, it covered my feet. It got to where the last couple of days I couldn't even wear a shoe. I was desperate. It was painful. The next morning I woke up, and then I looked down at my feet, and they were like a newborn baby’s skin, just perfect, absolutely, instantaneously, totally healed. I think God wanted to reassure me that He heard my prayer of salvation. By showing what He did on the outside, God was saying, “If I can do this on the outside, this is what I can do on the inside.” Wow! God knows you, he knows you inside out. He created you. He knows what you need, what it takes to make you tick. He knows how to forgive the things that are poor choices you've made in your life. He can cover it all. That's an extraordinary man. I mean, he's astral projection. He finds the Lord early in the morning. He gets healed of an ongoing foot infection. I mean, what a tremendous thing! God is speaking to him. I don't know what's happening in his life, but I think it's good, whatever the Lord has. We have some prayer answers to prayer. Do you want to share? This is Gloria. She lives in Wilmington, North Carolina. She had a cyst in her shoulder. It had been there for years. And then a couple of weeks ago, Pat, you gave a word of knowledge. So she received that word for herself. She laid her hand on that spot and was healed. The cyst is gone. And Linda lives in McKinney, Texas. She was having seizures and was actually diagnosed with diabetes. She was watching this program, and she heard you, Pat, give this word of knowledge. You said, “Someone is being healed from diabetes.” On June 16th, she went to the doctor, and he said her diabetes is gone. I tell you, that is a super miracle. That's really the anointing of God. John, who lived in a place called Medford, Oregon, had terrible pain from his heel to the middle of his left foot and was diagnosed with Plantar fasciitis. For the next three months, he was in pain. Last May he was watching and the hosts were praying, and Terry said, “There’s somebody who has a foot problem. Something with the bones in your feet. God is healing you, and immediately John’s foot was healed. Praise the Lord. That's painful. These other ones, I think you shared that, didn't you? All right. Well folks . . . . We have a prayer request. Can I just mention this? Yes, please. Go ahead. This is a young man named Braden. He's just 11 years old. He just came into the chat room and asked pleased to pray for his father who’s lonely. Braden's stepmother, his father's wife died in a car crash. He wants his dad to feel that God is with him and asked for prayer that he would find a good church home. Well folks, with God all things are possible. There's nothing impossible. The God of the universe is here. Where two of you gathered together in his name, there He is in the midst of them. He said, “Now if you agree on earth as touching anything you ask, it'll be done for them by my Father in Heaven.” Now we're going to agree for you. Lord, reach out and touch people today. In the name of Jesus, touch them. Thank you Lord. Father, we pray especially for Braden today. Lord, this young man whose heart is touched by his father's loss, and God we just pray that you would be the great comforter to both of them. We pray that you would knit their hearts together as father and son. Father, be there in the midst of them. Take them up into your arms and carry them as you do as the good Shepherd with all of us when we are broken. And, God, I pray for a good church home that you would lead them and guide them to Christian friends and fellowship into a church where they will grow and be nurtured in you, Father. We ask that in Jesus’ name. Somebody has a cut near the clavicle. I don't know whether it was a surgical cut or whether you've got hit by some implement or a knife or a machete or whatever it was. But God, right now, is healing you in the name of Jesus. Put your hand on it in the new flesh will come up, and you're going to find yourself amazingly healed. Someone else, you have chronic migraines. We just ask you Father now, to touch them and heal them. God is healing that situation for you. Just put your hand on your head and receive that healing for you. You're just going to feel a warmth come over your head as all of that muscle relaxes. There’s a woman with a cyst in her breast right now. God at this moment is taking, that cyst is breaking, and it's going to be vanished completely, in the name of Jesus. And, Father, for others in this audience who are praying for money, praying for their families, whatever their praying for, hear Lord, hear, and answer the prayer of your people. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Wherever you are, give us a call. Let us know what God has done in your life. We'd love to hear from you. And other good things are happening on this edition of The 700 Club. Well if you're a longtime fan of The 700 Club you're also a fan of our dear sister in Christ, Sheila Walsh. For five years Sheila sat beside me and gave me grief all the time as co-host of The 700 Club. And we miss her. Since then she has continued to distinguish herself as a dynamic woman of faith, writing books, holding concerts, doing stuff all over the country. Watch this. “. . . . How great thou art . . . .” Sheila Walsh is a Grammy nominated vocalist, bestselling author, and a featured speaker for, Women of Faith. She's also a devoted wife and a mother to 13-year-old son Christian. From 1987 to 1992, Sheila was a host of The 700 Club. Sheila's latest work, The Shelter of God’s Promises, and its companion book, God’s Shelter For Your Storm, take a look at 10 of God's promises that will help you through whatever challenges life brings. Well, please welcome back to The 700 Club our dear friend, Sheila Walsh. God bless you, daughter. Dad, I'm home! You’ve been gone so long. I know, I wandered. Have you been a good girl? No! What did you do bad? Oh, I've just been busy. But it's so lovely to see you again. And I can't believe 50 years coming up. Isn’t it amazing? Yeah. Wow! I looked at those pictures. I was young once. They prove it. Well, I looked at some of those pictures. I look at my hair, and I want to shoot the hairstylist. Oh, there we go. Thank you for illustrating my point. Look at that, oh boy! I mean gosh, I look like Phyllis Diller on a bad day. Yeah, but oh were you so perky! Hey, you’re writing books? The Shelter, and what is it, one is a study book and the other is a regular? Yeah, one is more of a kind of in-depth Bible study, and the other is more of a gift book. But basically they're both on what do we absolutely know for sure in God's Word. No matter what else is going on in the world, what can we stake our lives on. Give me two or three things, we can stake our lives on. Remember when Christ said to his friends, just before He's about to be betrayed, “Peace, I leave with you.” That’s right. “My peace I give, not as the world gives,” because for the world's peace to work circumstances have to change. For Christ peace to work, nothing has to change. We just have His presence. Yeah. I thought that even as I was watching the news last night, and there's such discord in Washington. But at the feet of Christ, there is no discord. There's peace to be found. Amen. And He said, “In this world you will have trouble.” And that Greek word, “trouble,” interacts and is like, “Perfect storm.” It's as if Jesus is saying, “In this world you're going to face the perfect storm; but take heart, because I've overcome the world.” I like it. I love it. I was saying to the girl who was doing my hair, that there's nothing in this earth that will make a woman more beautiful than the word of God. Amen. Because that transforms you from inside out. That’s beautiful. Did the Lord give you this, you're sort of meditating? How did these things come to you? I got a lot from a woman who said, “My husband just died of cancer, and I just got breast cancer. I don't know if I'll be able to keep my house.” But she said something at the end that just captured me. She said, “I wouldn't have made it this far without the promises of God.” And she didn't say it like she was trying to say the right thing. You know, we show up for church, and you've had this horrible argument in the car with your husband, and they’re like, how are you? And I'm like, “Oh, I’m so glorious. Any closer to the Lord, I'd be flying.” It was not like that. It was someone who had walked through the darkest night in life and in that place, found God's promises to be faithful. So I made a commitment, until the Lord takes me home, or He returns, I'm studying His Word and passing it on to as many people as I can. Well, here they are, ladies and gentlemen, The Shelter and God's Promises. Sheila Walsh. And this is a study book. Either one available from Nelson. Now, you have become a Facebook fan of my gorgeous dog. I love your new dog, Blue. Blue. Blue is beautiful. Yes, I'm a fan of Blue’s. Well, he's coming in on Thursday. I wish he'd be here for you. I wish. When did you get him? He looks like he's still quite a puppy. He is a big puppy. But I got him just before Christmas. Well, that's the perfect dog for you. He is, because he's like a big noble beast, not like the wee fluffy thing. No, I don't want a wee fluffy. I'm a big noble. He is a dear dog. I've got him, he jumps when I tell him to. He rolls over. He sits down. He lies down. Wow. Most of us jump when you tell us to. Let's just be honest here. You say jump, we say how high? Well, let’s not tell any secrets. All right. Blue’s got about 2200 people on Facebook right now. Here's a question from one of our Facebook fans. Her name is Leah, and she says quote, “I was always impressed with your gift of evangelism and sweet songs. What are you doing now and how old is your child?” Ahh, how sweet, Leah. Well, Christian will turn 15 in December. He's about to get to high school, Pat. Can you believe that? At the moment I'm traveling a lot with Women of Faith. We have conferences all around the country. I love that. And when I'm not doing that, I'm home with my family and studying God's word. Is Christian a good kid? Or is he a troubled teen? He is an amazing kid. Is he? Yeah. And I think one of—when I was pregnant I prayed, “Lord, I pray that Christian will come to know you when he's young,” because I can't imagine living in this world and not knowing the Lord. So I got to lead Christian into a relationship with Christ when he was five. Praise God! And he's just got back from his first mission trip. No kidding? God's really got his hand on that boy. Oh, that’s beautiful. And he looks just like his dad. He does? Stunning. Stunning. Stunning child. Like his mother, gorgeous. Oh, thanks. Can he sing? Yes! He sings? He sings. Yeah, he's just amazing. How marvelous. I think so. Well, I'll tell you what. The next time you're here, you bring Christian and I'll bring Blue. It’s a deal! Okay. Why do you think it's so hard; people have a hard time believing God's promises in a troubled world. Why is it so hard for them? Because we don't keep our own word. We have learned that the word promise means very little in our culture. Okay. You know, we have promises. We have prenuptial agreements. We break them all the time. But Scripture says there's two words in the Hebrew, in the Old Testament, that we translate as “promise” for God. They’re dabar and omer. And what they mean is “to say” and “to speak.” So, what it’s saying is if God says something, if God speaks that's as good as it gets. We don't need to come out with a fancy word for God. If God has said it, you can stake your life on it. I believe that. God is not man that he should lie. I said that when I came down here that I'm staking my entire life on the promises of God. Fifty years later . . . . Look what God has done. Do you know that everywhere I travel whether it's Sydney Australia, London, everywhere I go, people will say to me, “I want to tell you that God used The 700 Club to impact my life.” Hallelujah! Everywhere around the world. Isn't that marvelous? It’s wonderful. A little TV station, $70. I know. Ben Kenchlow falling off his chair. It’s all good. Yeah. Hey, we miss you. Oh, I miss you, too. But I watch you and pray for you. Well, don't stop. Well, I love you. You're sweet, God bless you. Sheila Walsh. Sheila’s books are called The Shelter of God’s Promises and God’s Shelter for Your Storm. Both are available nationwide. And we have a web exclusive interview with this dear lady online. You can go to CBN.com and click, “In the Green Room.” Oh man, we’re getting so fancy. All right. Terry, what's next? How far will you go to feed your family if they were starving? For one widow in Laos finding food meant hunting for insects. In a remote village in Laos in Southeast Asia, the widow Mong searches for food to feed her children. Some people might turn away in disgust from the ant larva that she collects for them to eat. But it will be the only food they have today. This is Noe, the oldest of Mong’s children. When my father died, I tried to help my mom as much as I can with the children. And things become especially challenging for the family when one of the children get sick. Mot is the youngest of the group. One day she developed stomach pains that were so severe she had to leave school early. By the next day, her pain was even more intense. It was so hard. We didn't know how to treat her, and we couldn't afford to send her to the doctor. I was very scared for my sister. That very week, CBN happened to be visiting the remote village with a free medical clinic. When the doctor learned of little Mot’s pain, she quickly diagnosed the problem. Mot had contracted a liver fluke, a tiny but potentially deadly parasite. I was surprised to learn that it was so serious and thankful that CBN was offering to help us. CBN gave the little girl the pills she needed to kill that parasite; and a couple of days later, Mot was back to normal. CBN also helped Mot’s mom increase the family's income by giving them ducks and grain to start a small poultry business. We also gave Mot’s older sister some thread for weaving. Now she can help her mom bring in some extra money while working from home. Thank you to CBN. You are good people. Thank you, CBN. You know, it's an amazing thing to me when I see how much need there is in the world and how simple it is to bring an answer. What this little girl suffered from wasn't simple. But those pills would be available to anybody in America at any time. It's just that in other parts of the world, they need someone who will help, who will step into the middle of the gap and say, “Here, let me provide what you need.” This little girl's life was in danger, and you made it possible for us to be there for her, so we want to say thank you. We also want to say we have opportunities like this every hour, every day, every week, every month, every year. And we can only step in and make a difference, because you care enough to stand up and say, “I want to join the 700 Club. That's what 700 Club members do all around the world. So we want to invite those of you who haven't yet made that commitment to go to your phone and call today. It's a simple thing. It's 65 cents a day, $20 a month. And while that may not seem like much to you, when we all partner together, we really can make a difference in the world. Isn't that good to know in a day where there is so much chaos going on around you that you can be part of the solution for not just one person, but many people. So go to your phone call right now. The number is toll free. It's 1-800-759-0700. Just say, “I want to join the 700 Club.” When you do our way of saying thank you is to send you, Life Beyond the Grave. This is a DVD of real-life accounts of people who've had death experiences. Some have gone to Heaven. Some have gone to Hell. They share what happened to them, and then Pat teaches from the Word. Sheila was talking a few moments ago about the inerrancy of God's Word. The promises He's made to us. Hear what Pat has to say that the Bible shares about eternity, about life and death and Heaven and Hell. You’ll want to know that and share it with the people that you love. So you go to your phone and call right now. Make a difference in someone else's life, and we’ll get that DVD out to you right away. Want to answer some questions? Well, I’ll let you know after you tell me what the questions are. That’s too late. You gotta do it now. Too late! Alright I'm on. This is Dave who's bringing it online today with this question. He says, “My daughter has been dating a guy for two years. This has caused conflict in our family, because my daughter is a Christian, and he's a Catholic. We've prayed about this, and we just don't want our daughter to be unequally yoked. What do you think?” Well, I’d hate to say “you're Christian, and he's Catholic,” because Catholics consider themselves Christians. There is some difference. What do I say? It's difficult to be unequally yoked. Don't be unequally yoked with an unbeliever, but what does this boy believe? I mean, does he believe in Jesus? Does he believe in the power of the cross? Has he been born again? All these things. And if not, they're setting themselves up for conflict. On this one, if I were you I would love this young man and see what he believes and see if you couldn't lead into a little bit more perfect understanding of God's love and grace. This is Jesse who says, “I suffer from Lyme disease. I believe that I'm going to be healed, but it's only getting worse. Why hasn't God healed me yet? Is this a test of my faith?” I have no idea why God hasn't healed you. There are many reasons, the first of which is you may not be praying right. There could be something in your life. Or it might be that God wants you to use medicine. I just don't know if there is medicine for Lyme disease, but you certainly don't want to let it go on very long, because you can have very severe consequences. I don't know if he's not being treated. If he's been diagnosed, you'd think he'd be getting something. It's caused by a tick bite, and it's one of those things. I wouldn't hesitate to take medicine. I believe that God uses medicine . . . . Excellent. . . . . and he uses doctors. We're very blessed to have wonderful medical facilities. I think there's nothing that would denigrate faith on account of the fact that you go to doctors and get treated. All right. This is Karen who says, “I am deeply disturbed by the Norway shootings, especially because they were perpetrated by a Christian. Obviously, I think he is a sick and troubled man and did not represent Christianity as a whole. But can't we say the same thing about the Muslim jihadists? Can't we say that they, like the Norway shooter, only represent a lunatic fringe of their religion?” No, I don't think we can say that, because if you read in the Koran, it tells you to “smite the infidels.” It tells you to “wage war against the infidels.” It says that there's two sides of the world, one is either the Dar al-Islam, which is the world of Islam; the other is Dar al-Harb, which is the world of war. And everybody who's not under Islam is at war. The Koran teaches war and teaches jihad. The Bible teaches peace, teaches love, teaches the forgiveness of God. That's a totally different thing. I don't think that guy in Norway was a Christian. The Christian churches in Norway have all disavowed him. Actually this morning on the news, they're saying that he was deranged and that he actually believes he's in some war and that he's acting out of that place. Yes, but he had all kinds of strange writings that don't reflect in any way in Christianity. What else? This is Brenda who says, “The wealthy in America can afford to have their taxes raised a little so the poor can keep their basic benefits like food and shelter. Why can't this be an open matter?” The tragic fact is 50 percent of the people in America pay no taxes at all. So if you burden the productive sector with higher and higher taxes, they will be less able to provide the jobs which are what the poor need. The poor don't need handouts; they don't need welfare programs; they need employment. If you're going to penalize the productive sector, you're going to take away their opportunity to provide jobs. It's the surpluses of profit that business has that enables it to hire more people and to expand. If we don't have a dynamic economy, then everybody suffers. So this business about we're going to cut spending on the backs of the poor, it's a shame but, we've given away benefits to everybody. When they had welfare reform a few years ago when Tommy Thompson of Wisconsin and others put in reform, it was dramatic. They said, “Look, if you don't work, you're not going to get free food.” So all of a sudden these welfare guys started getting jobs. It was meant to help people over a slump, not to be an ongoing constant support. Not ongoing. It is devastating to take charity all the time. Well, that's all the time we've got. Tomorrow, how can you get healthy with the 400 calories fix. You're going to get hungry, but we’ll tell you about it. See you tomorrow, bye-bye. Tomorrow . . . . . . . . have you ever had a bad week? Meet Henry Youngblood. I just wanted the pain over with. He lost his best friend, his wife, his job . . . . Everything you work for, it's gone. . . . . and almost his life. I pulled out the 38, pulled the hammer back and stuck it to my head. . . . . lose weight and look great. Learn how you can get a full meal at just 400 calories a pop, on The 700 Club. Here at CBN, we see amazing things happen when we stand together. That’s why we want to say thank you to the thousands of you . . . . . . . . who recently pledged to join the 700 Club. Your monthly gift makes it possible to bring crucial help to those who need it most. You help heal the sick, feed the hungry . . . . . . . . and preach the Gospel across America and throughout the world. You’ve brought health and hope to people in desperate need. And changed their lives forever. This widow was so poor she had to search for food for her children. Many times all she could find was ant larvae. When her daughter became ill with a deadly parasite, you sent a free medical clinic that saved her life. You also gave this family a small poultry business so that they can support themselves. Your love ended their despair. So please watch for this mailing and send in your pledge. This year millions will know . . . . The love and saving power of Jesus Christ. And that only happens, because you were there.
