Reflection and Awe Lent Series - More Than Wishful Thinking

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever –Hebrews 6:19-20 (NIV)

As we journey through Lent, we draw ever closer to the pinnacle of our faith: the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This transformative moment in history invites us to deepen our reflection and stand in awe of our God and Savior. Each step along this road reveals more of His grace, love, and redemptive power. Imagine the days ahead as opportunities to anchor your heart in the eternal truths of who God is and what Christ accomplished for you.

Believing in Jesus is the greatest single decision you will ever make in your life. It’s a shift from one kingdom, that of darkness, into a new kingdom, the Kingdom of Light. It is a change of state, from lost to found, blind to seeing, broken to whole, and from old to new. We move from sinner to saint, where our eternal destination is completely changed through a restored and redeemed relationship with our Father, and by doing so, we become sons and heirs.

God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.

–Galatians 4:6-7 (NLT)

What an incredible truth to learn that we are co-heirs with Christ (Galatians 3:26-4:7)! Our spiritual inheritance isn’t just a nice thought or sentimental comfort but an absolute reality for us as believers in Christ. We can live this out in full if we choose to embrace it.

And what’s more, because of our position in Christ, this hope of all to come is not merely wishful thinking. It is an assurance in the promises of a faithful Father. It isn’t a fingers-crossed moment but a deep knowing that there is more for us. And it doesn’t stop there, either. This hope, our hope, is not passive. Our hope is in a person, Jesus, who is alive. That means that our hope is active, working in and through for our good.

Let us walk together in this season of reflection and awe, lifting our eyes to the cross, where the love of God was poured out in its fullness, and to the empty tomb, where hope and victory were forever sealed. Lent invites us to prepare our hearts for the transformative joy of Easter, reminding us that our salvation and inheritance in Christ are far more than wishful thinking—they are the unshakable foundation of our faith.

This week, as we reflect on our hope in Christ, may the revelation of who He is in your life strengthen and sustain you. Grasp onto the living hope the cross has opened to you, resting in the unchanging promises of our Savior.
