83rd Academy Awards Noms Announced, "The King's Speech" Leads Again

The Kings Speech gets the most Oscar nominations this year with 12 in all, including best picture and acting nods for Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter, and Geoffrey Rush. True Grit was second with 10 noms for best picture, Jeff Bridges for Actor in a Leading Role and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld for Actress in a Supporting Role, and more. The eight other motion pictures that garnered best picture nominations are Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception, The Kids Are All Right, 127 Hours, The Social Network, Toy Story 3, and Winter's Bone.

Though I have not seen all of the films nominated for the coveted acting, best picture, and directing categories, I'm surprised to see Toy Story 3 nominated for best film of the year. Yes, it was a touching cartoon sequel about Andy's toys, but it wasn't that good. Going up against heavyweights such as Inception, True Grit, and The Social Network, Toy Story 3 doesn't have much of a chance of winning.

One saving grace is that
Hereafter only received one nomination (for visual effects, which it deserved). It may have been tempting to give Oscar winner, Hereafter director Clint Eastwood another nod, but the film just didn't deliver. Another surprise was Hailee Steinfeld's nom for her work as Mattie Ross in True Grit (a great film that was overlooked at The Golden Globes). Congratulations to Hailee for the nod, an honor she earned for her incredible acting in the Coen brother's film.
