New Trailer: National Geographic's Killing Reagan

On March 30, 1981, the world stood still. It was at 2:27 p.m. that a deranged man named John Hinckley Jr. pulled a gun on unsuspecting and newly inaugurated president Ronald Reagan. Hinckley's failed assassination attempt of the leader of the free world rocked the nation and abroad.

This October, National Geographic Channel will bring this significant moment in American history to the small screen with Killing Reagan -- the network's fourth collaboration with Scott Free Productions and best-selling author Bill O'Reilly (after Killing Lincoln, Killing Kennedy, and Killing Jesus).

Director Rod Lurie (The Contender) helms the project with Tim Matheson (The West Wing) as Reagan and Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City) as Nancy. Actor Kyle More (CSI) fills the role of would-be assassin John Hinckley Jr.

"No matter your political leanings, the assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan was not just a crucible in history, it didn't just reset the Reagan presidency, it told us about a man," said Lurie. "This isn't so much a political thriller as it is a psychological thriller. We get deep into the head of Reagan and get even deeper into the heart of his love story with Nancy. We get into Hinckley's insanity, but we also get into the tick-tock of the environment that drove him to want to murder Reagan."

"If Hinckley had never pulled that trigger — if he'd gotten the help he needed to deal with his mental health — this world might be a much different place now," said Bill O'Reilly. "President Reagan was truly damaged in the early days of his presidency, and this horrific act turned his presidency on its head. It's a riveting period of history, with effects that reverberated through the whole world."

This week, a brand new trailer for Killing Reagan released online. Check it out...

Killing Reagan will premiere in the U.S. on October 16, 2016. The TV movie will also air globally in early 2017 on National Geographic Channels in 171 countries and in 45 languages, according to the network's latest news release.
