Dubbed "The Queen of Soul," Aretha Franklin began her recording career steeped in Gospel anthems. The two worlds could be polarizing, but Franklin easily moved between the two as she walked through a a sometimes difficult path throughout life. Her father has been quoted as saying about her music, “If you want to know the truth, Aretha has never left the church. If you have the ability to feel, and you have the ability to hear, you know that Aretha is still a gospel singer.”
