Pray for America - Day 10
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; and in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, until these calamities have passed by. — Psalm 57:1
DAY 10: "Rest"
We live in a stress-filled, multitasking world. We are in desperate need of rest. We are offered the perfect pillow that guarantees us a better night’s sleep, or special sound devices and relaxing fragrances to fill our bedrooms. We can even take pills that promise a renewed energy when we wake in the morning. Americans are almost wearing themselves thin just trying to rest!
Did you know that God has already blessed His people with rest? It is the security we find when we rest in the shadow of His wings. What does this mean? When the trials and calamities of this world try to consume our rest, we have God’s presence that provides us with His protection. He gives us a refuge in times of trouble, and as believers we have the security of rest that is like no other. When we are resting in the shadow of the Almighty, we find the kind of refreshment that will lead us to perfect peace—day or night!
With America in such chaos and unrest, pray that each of us can be a testimony of how the protection of His shadow gives us rest in the midst of turmoil. Pray that we can rest in the shadow of God’s presence and that our countenance will draw people to ask us what we’re doing to get a good night’s sleep!
