The Gift Inexpressible!
Greetings,
Personally I have so much to be thankful for as Christmas is upon us and the New Year approaches.
First and foremost, I personally thank the God of the universe for stretching his hand down and touching my nose and "arresting" the cancer that threatened my life. What is there to say about that kind of Christmas gift?
"Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!"
“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”
And then there is the flip side without sounding like Scrooge, or the Grinch.
With author John Grisham I’d rather skip the whole holiday frenzy which has been a real struggle for me most of my life. It’s too much to go into here, but this season has very little to do with the basic character of who Jesus really is. I wrote about some of my early struggles from my book Scott Free, in an article called, “How to Kill Your Christmas Tree”.
And a few years ago another piece called The Visitor, which allegorically depicts how we can miss the Person in the midst of our hustle and bustle.
And then there is the gift-giving thing and all the bucks we spread around to build more Wal-Marts when there are some places we can invest that will bring back a meaningful return. All the lonely, hurting, and needy people are everywhere.
Our Operation Blessing gives opportunity to give for medical missions (dental, AIDS, malaria, etc.) water wells, hunger relief, soup kitchens, orphans, start a farm for a family, etc.etc.
