Carolina Rain: Under Christ's Reign

CBN.com Their voices are powerful, their harmony stunning and they are making a mark in the country music world.

Their journey started with lead singer Rhen Boyer working as a security officer while pursuing his music career.  Marvin Evatt applied for a job patrolling with Rhen.

The Interview with Dory Nissen:

Rhen: We spent quite a bit of time in the interview process, talking just like we do now.

Marvin: Right, and he (Rhen) said, ‘Why did you move to Nashville?’ And I said, ‘well I moved here because I’m a singer/songwriter.’  And everyone laughed and I said, ‘Oh no, what did I do wrong?’  And he said, ‘You are coming to the right place because we are all singer/songwriters.’

Rhen: The second day we wrote a song called Carolina Rain. We walked outside and it was raining and he mumbled something and sang ‘Carolina Rain’ and I said, ‘What did you say?’

Jeremy Baxter joined the picture when Rhen joined Jeremy’s church and choir.

Jeremy: He was the new guy. I didn’t think much about it and two weeks later he said, ‘I would like for you to come hear some of the stuff I wrote and see if you want to sing with us or whatever.’  And I said, ‘Okay, cool.’

Carolina Rain was complete. They enjoy telling their fans that they like traveling the country meeting folks just like them – real people.

Their friendship with each other and their families is not the only thing that holds Carolina Rain in one accord.  They are all believers in Jesus Christ.

Rhen: Ultimately, as Christians, we all have the same goals and our eyes on the same direction.  Knowing that we are Christians, knowing that God is in control, it’s so exciting to do this.  We love what we do and we know that we are not the ones who put it all together; we are part of a bigger plan.

Marvin: In the business that we are in, there are lots of lots of temptations.  Without God

Rhen jumps in: You are helpless, like you are cast to the wolves.

Marvin: Yea, I don’t think we would be where we are now if we didn’t have our faith.  No way.

Jeremy: It’s a lot easier because there are three of us.

Rhen: Yea, we are together and leaning on each other.

Jeremy: Honestly, if I was alone, I probably would not be doing this.  It’s a lot; it’s a tough road. Having two other guys makes us so much stronger.

And their Christ-like attitude is making Nashville sit up and take notice.

Rhen: That’s the kind of people God expects us to be, just real all the time and we are friendly. We are becoming known around the country as the band who is easy to work with - with production companies and crew guys. We know what we contribute it too - our faith in God.

Marvin and Jeremy have been Christians most of their lives, but Rhen says God delivered him from a life of drugs, and alcohol.  It happened in rehab.

Rhen: And at that point I heard God tell me louder than anything I’d heard in my life.  ‘This is your chance.  I’m giving you a chance right now.’  And I’ll never forget the day that I came to the conclusion that I can’t help me.  Everything I was doing was getting me further deep down.  I guess that’s what God was waiting for - for me to finally get off my face and look to Him for everything. It wasn’t about Tanya coming back; it was just between me and my maker and that’s when me life changed.

And Carolina Rain’s faith is reflected in their music.

Rhen: We feel like we are in the right place.  We are excited about what we are doing and what God has in store for us.  The only hope we have is in Jesus Christ. You know what I’m saying.  That’s the only hope we know in this world.
