Filling God's House
One of the last things Jesus said before He left was for us to make disciples.
"Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit." (Matthew 28:19 NLT)
It sounds straightforward, but making disciples has many variables. One is to deny ourselves and get out of our comfort zones. The Apostle Paul writes “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20).
One Saturday evening, my husband and I set out on a quest to make a disciple. We didn’t have the details ironed out. We just knew we needed to be where lots of people were. So, where do you think we went? If you guessed a large, popular superstore, you are right! Out of the crowd, one young lady stood out to us. She was sitting alone to the side of the entranceway.
“Do you sing?” my husband blurted out. I thought, oh boy this isn’t going well. Then, I remembered why we were out there and snapped out of the flesh to support him.
“Yes,” she said with a smile. This opened the door for us and I began to share my music background. We hit it off naturally. Eventually, she said, “This is so God for you all to come up to me.”
“What is going on?” I asked.
“Well, my boyfriend got angry and just left me here.”
We probed and found out she was new to the city and worked at the airport but didn’t know much about the area. I began to tell her of Christ’s love for her—that He has a plan and purpose for her life, and ultimately that He wants her to spend eternity with Him. The next question astounded me. I was so energized by her innocence as she asked, “How can I be saved?”
This is a feeling I had longed for and I began to share the Gospel with her—ultimately sharing that the Bible says if you believe in your heart and openly say that Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead, you’ll be saved (Romans 10:9).
She prayed a prayer of salvation, unashamed at the bustling department store, and her life will never be the same.
“Now you have another birthday,” I told her, “the day you were born again!” We hugged and took a picture to celebrate. We’re still in touch with her today.
I believe God wants people to encounter believers like me, like my husband, like you and your family—who carry the light of Christ and show them the way. I am forever grateful for the way the Lord encouraged us that day. Another soul was won to Christ and the angels in heaven rejoiced. What an amazing day!
Will you ask God for boldness to make disciples? Are you ready to get out of your comfort zone and share the Love of Christ? The same Jesus who saved you is the same Jesus whom others need.
Heavenly Father, we come to You in Jesus’ Name, asking You for courage to be Your witnesses in the earth. Forgive us for anytime we may have hidden the Gospel from others. Thank You for opportunities to share Your goodness and love. We rejoice in faith that Your house will be filled! Amen!
