One Verse That Sparks Bold Faith
Have you ever experienced something so amazing that you can’t stop talking about it? This is how my son feels about going to amusement parks. The rides, the food, the fun. I can’t blame him, there is something so nostalgic and special about being at an amusement park. Just a few months ago we made a trip to one of the greatest amusement parks in the country, and he still talks about it nearly every day.
As I watch my son get excited about what he saw and experienced at the amusement park, I can’t help but think about the zeal with which the early church talked about Jesus. Acts 4:20 says, “We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.” (NLT)
After Jesus’ death, resurrection, and ascension to heaven, He left the disciples with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2). The disciples were on fire. They began to preach, minster, heal in Jesus’ name, and the Bible says that each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved. (Acts 2:47) They knew they had good news, and they couldn’t stop talking about it. They knew people needed to know about Jesus! They responded to the Great Commission, and they told the world what they had seen and experienced.
Today our call is still the same as it was with the early church. The miracles, faithfulness, and testimony of Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). We all have a testimony of how Jesus saved us, redeemed us, restored us, and made us new. The world needs to hear and experience this saving grace we have! We can daily respond to the words of Jesus in Mark 16:15 to “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.”
How do we start? Sometimes evangelism seems overwhelming or scary. But it doesn’t need to be. Start with your story. Once you were lost, and now you are found. Tell others what you have seen and experienced. Stop for a moment and remind yourself of where you used to be, and because of Christ, where you are now! Praise be to God for what He has saved us from!
Think of the awe of a child who can’t stop talking about a theme park, and remind your soul today of the awe you felt when you first came to Christ. There is nothing like the joy of a new believer!
Remember the old hymn that John Newton penned, “Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; was blind, but now I see.” Tell the world about this good news. Once you start, you won’t be able to stop telling everyone about what you have seen and heard—just like the early believers in Acts.
Would you pray this prayer of boldness with me today?
Lord set me on fire for You. Remind me of my first love, Jesus. Thank You for dying for me, for Your resurrection, and for salvation. Help me to tell the world that You live, and you offer resurrection life to everyone who calls upon Your name! This is the Gospel, this is GOOD news!
