Switch the Light On!

Here we go again as the night of debate approaches. There is so much controversy about Halloween. Do we stay home or go out? Do we open the door or turn the lights out? I think it is the perfect night for witnessing. I sure won’t hide in the dark. I carry the light of Jesus and I want to boldly get out there. One year I passed out candy in my daughter’s neighborhood while she and my granddaughter took the children around to get some treats.
We won’t let them dress up as evil or creepy characters. This year my oldest grandchild will be an angel. Her choice!! They like to walk around and get candy; to them that is what it is about.
While I sat with the porch light on, I talked to the parents and told them all to be careful and have fun. I spoke to the children and said that God loved them. The night was Ok. I felt I had prayed and watched out for children. I didn’t dress up, but I had a smile and I proclaimed the love of Jesus. I even gave out some tracts, not about not celebrating Halloween but ones that said Jesus loves you. It is the easiest way to witness. Maybe the parents will read it more than the ones bringing condemnation about how evil Halloween is. Yes, the enemy uses that night; but we can take back the night and shed a little love. Throw the light switch on, whether it is on your porch or you are walking with a small child with your flashlight in your hand and the light of Jesus in your heart. Go to their door and tell them, "Jesus loves you and God Bless you."
If you go to a church to volunteer or bring children there, that is good to do too; just so you’re that salt and light. But please don’t hide in the dark when they see your car out in front of your house. What would your witness be? The people will only say, “That’s those Christians who can’t give little kids some candy.” Halloween night we can’t retreat; instead we must boldly use the opportunity to let our lights shine!!
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Mat 5:14-16 KJV)
