Jeb Bush and Gay Marriage

Jeb Bush will go into the 2016 presidential race as the GOP frontrunner but he will be maligned from the start.

Where to begin? Common Core and Immigration Reform will present problems for him. Could the gay marriage issue be a problem, too?

More below from The Washington Examiner:

Conservatives already irked at Jeb Bush over his support for immigration reform and Common Core educational standards are boring in on hints he is warming to same-sex marriage, a no-no among evangelicals who dominate early primaries and caucuses.

Two events this year put them on notice that Bush is backing away from his past hard-line position. First, while calling marriage a “sacrament,” he urged “respect” for gays in committed relationships in what some saw as an effort to finesse the issue slowly winning support among Republicans.

And then the leading 2016 GOP presidential hopeful hired a top campaign aide, David Kochel, an Iowa political pro who has advocated for same-sex marriage rights.

Jeb Bush needs to tread very carefully. It’ll be interesting to watch how he maneuvers this very sensitive issue. Clearly, he’s going to run a GOP primary campaign like a General Election campaign. But in doing so he may be left on the outside looking in when it comes to the General Election.
